It was a mere teeny tiny fishing village a few decades ago, but since then Benidorm has ballooned: over four million folk flock to the skyscraper-dotted Costa Brava resort every year for its white sandy beaches, glittering nightlife and over 3000 hours of annual sunshine – winter sun break, anyone?
Crowds throng around over six kilometres of sand at Benidorm’s Poniente and Levante beaches, the Old Town, the Rincon de Loix area and the resort restaurants and nightclubs with their famous evening cabaret and drag acts… but Benidorm is increasingly family-friendly these days too, with five fab theme parks – Terra Mitica, Aqualandia, Mundomar, Terra Natura and Aqua Natura – and lots of family-friendly opps like the Sunday circus or boat trips to birdwatch at Peacock Island.
Our top tip? Avoid the high-rise hotels and book one of our Benidorm campsites instead: not only will you save more cents for sangria and ice-cream, but camping in Benidorm should make for more restful evenings if you retire off the resort.
