Planning a break on the Costa Brava coast, famed for its wild coves, cliffs and clear Mediterranean waters? Enter Camping Santa Elena Ciutat, a green, dog-friendly site 900 metres from the closest beach. This place is in fact 10 minutes’ walk from Playa de Fenals (so close that guests come and go without a thought) and within half an hour’s walk of yet more coves – including one that very much meets Costa Brava’s ‘wild coast’ reputation. Of course, its top location might be its biggest selling point, but with 10 hectares of greenery and plenty of shade from centuries-old trees, there’s a lot more to like about Camping Santa Elena. The site has a bunch of long-standing facilities (old but tenderly cared for and constantly being improved). These include a gorgeous outdoor swimming pool, volleyball and football fields, bar, restaurant, miniature golf and entertainment schedule. It'll take you just 15 minutes to stroll to the centre of Lloret de Mar, where there are all kinds of restaurants, bars and shops, as well as several amusement parks, the Can Garriga maritime museum (half an hour’s walk), shows in the Teatre Municipal de Lloret de Mar (25 minutes) and the Gran Casino Costa Brava (25 minutes’ walk) Some of the wildest local coves are Platja de sa Boadella (15 minutes), a popular snorkelling spot with fabulous shallow water, and the even more remote Cala Banys (25 minutes). As for those who are looking to take a day trip to a big city, Girona (40 minutes’ drive) and Barcelona (an hour) are some splendid and achievable options.

Great spot, close to the beach & town, with a pool & restaurant. Staff are friendly, pitches are roomy, and it's clean. Some folks mentioned noise from other campers and tired bathrooms, but upgrades are coming. Good for families and a bit of a buzz.

Disliked Staff at reception rude and exceptionally unhelpful. I did not have an electric point available at my pitch. Had to ask 4 times for assistance as nobody arrived to help as promised. The pitch was only 6m long and not the 9m as stated. Toilet block not clean. Not a great experience.

Liked The best part of this site is when you leave.

Disliked The dog faeces on our pitch that greeted us. The constant noise and shouting from the teenagers / young adults. This is a site clearly made for the 18-30’s crowd. And not peaceful of relaxing. And 8 days after I emailed the site and still no reply which completely sums up this site. The site resembled Glastonbury the day after it finishes. What a disgusting place.

I would not recommend this site to anyone even my ex wife.

Recruit your five senses for local botanical gardens, which include Jardins de Santa Clotilde (10 minutes’ walk), Jardí Botànic Tropical Paratge Pinya de Rosa (25 minutes) and Jardí Botànic Marimurtra (15 minutes’ drive).
