Sanlúcar AC Parking: Private grass pitch with optional electricity for caravans and motorhomes

General

  • Less than a minute’s walk from sandy Costa de la Luz beaches
  • City sights of Jérez, Cádiz and Seville within easy reach
  • Adventurers’ haven: top spot for coastal hikes, bikes and sunsets

If sandy beaches, ocean views and sunsets that are muy bonito is your dream recipe for switched-off hols, park up for a stay at Sanlúcar AC Parking, a family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from the town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda in the Cadiz province of Spain’s Andalucía.

The site is right on the Costa de la Luz, so pack for beachy days under the Spanish sun, as the nearest beach is about a minute’s walk from base, and a quick jaunt into Sanlúcar will set you up for paddleboarding, canoeing and kayaking along the town’s sandy stretches. For a change of scenery, climb into the saddle to pedal along the fab coastal greenway from Sanlúcar to Chipiona, with stops at the 13th-century castle and stunning lighthouse.

And then? Take a break from sand, surf and cycling with a day kicking back on site: put your feet up, grab a book and pass some time in peace and quiet, or steal a little siesta in the lazy, hazy afternoon hours.

When you’re ready to eat, saunter across the road to Gaspar’s for some eats, or wander into town for tapas and more substantial fare. A short stroll will bring you to the local for a few drinks, but don’t forget to poke your head outside to take in the spectacular sunset at some point during the evening (ideally at sunset).

Absolutely nothing !!! We arrived in evening in a thunderstorm and was told temporary gate shut, will not be opening, parked in car park opposite. Gained entry in morning, mud bath,. Alphonso friendly did his best.

    Disliked:

Do not arrive in dark, road to site is dangerous to all vehicle suspensions, huge potholes everywhere. Each electrical hook-up is only ( 700w !!! Cannot boil kettle !!!ridiculous. Coinbox attached to everything on the site !! 2 ladies toilets and 2 men, 5 showers for whole site, seen better at concerts. Area is an industrial estate, absolutely filthy. The beach is a disgrace, litter everywhere and a direct outlet from a channel that runs through the area, god knows whats going in the sea !!!

I cannot mark anything in the following 2 sections.

on booking i booked a secluded pitch but when i arrived they said they had none available and we had to be put amongst the many. found site dirty, toilets and showers old and grubby needing modernisation. millions of dogs barking all night and dogs poo everywhere. the camp actually smelt of dogs poo too.

we are new to motorhoming so we didnt know what to expect but was disappointed and even though we booked for 5 days only lasted 2 days.

facilities all there but needed a good clean up and restoration of the whole site. site has wifi but could never get onto it, rubbish connection. electric hook up but unable to use hair dryers or anything much electrical otherwise it would trip.

Very Spanish, Natural area. Loved walks on the beach, tapas bars in town and bus ride back after too much vino. Fell in love with this place especially the beach bar about 1/2 a mile along the beach which looked like a shack and scruffy and had a loo in a cabin but served the best fish and tapas, very cheap, very Spanish and great atmosphere to sit by the sea, eat drink, listen to the sea and people watch.
Other English we met didn’t like the fact it looked scruffy for me it just had loads of character.
Camper park facilities basic in portable cabins but clean and plenty of warm water for showers.
Washing machines ok and drying area so no lines on your pitch.

    Disliked:

Dog dirt at entrance of beach and on the streets nearby. A drain in the middle of town for high tides that had collected rubbish. Rubbish around bins on the street spoiling first impression of the place.
    Poor Wifi on site

When we arrived we were told the site didn’t take bookings, so when I showed our pitch up reservation email we were told they didn’t have it. We were told that the “secluded” pitch we had reserved was only for Spanish people and full, despite several nationalities plates being visible and the area less than half full. We were told to park in the main aire, but there was no electricity, despite everyone else being hooked up. It was finally agreed that we could hook up. We were always polite, we try to speak a little Spanish, but we felt completely unwelcome and extremely uncomfortable. We stayed overnight, but left early the next morning.

Alfonso who met us was charming and even when we tripped the electric he was very understanding. Afterwards we were just so careful with usage, no hair dryer, no heating and no coffee maker.
The pitch was ok, even though the German couple next to us spread their chairs way across their pitch to ours but we were out exploring so didn’t have our chairs out at all (some people like your space and theirs).
Loved walking down to the beach, hearing the fishing boats coming back and the sunset.

    Disliked:

Offsite dogs barking through the night non stop.

Local attractions

There’s plenty to do within an hour and a half of the site, but before you wander too far have a nose around Sanlúcar de Barrameda. The seaside town has palaces and castles, bike tours and scenic ruins, but it’s fans of the vino who’ll be best served: there are dozens of bodegas to choose from, and many are handily within walking (stumbling?) distance of home base.

Stick with the urban with a day trip to Jérez (35 minutes’ drive) for museums, horseback riding tours and the zoo, or to Cadiz (40 minutes) for castles, Roman ruins and the pretty 18th-century gardens at Park Genoves. If that’s not enough for you, Seville and its three UNESCO World Heritage Sites are an hour and a half away, with the extremely photographic Plaza de España an absolute must.

For some time in the outdoors, head 25 minutes away to Doñana National Park, Europe’s largest nature reserve: trek along the wetland trails, through the pine forests and among the dunes and keep an eye out for lynx and the elusive Spanish imperial eagle.

Fancy pushing the boat out a bit? Clamber aboard a ferry in Tarifa (an hour and a half from base); within an hour or so, you’ll be strolling the streets, markets and galleries of Tangier, Morocco.
