  • Touring site with mountain views near the Greece/Bulgaria border
  • A 40-minute drive to Belasitsa Nature Park and Rozhen Monastery
  • Naturist-friendly site with swimming pool and electric hook-ups
Planning a touring holiday though Bulgaria or Greece? Or contemplating visiting both countries? Handily placed to help you do either with ease, Sunny Paradise Campsite is on the outskirts of the small village of Chuchuligovo in southwestern Bulgaria, only five minutes’ drive from the Greek border. This is a handy location indeed, whether you’re overnighting or hanging around to explore the area. The spacious pitches have good access to the main E79 motorway, and yet are surrounded by mountain peaks and sleepy villages in a rural valley that's renowned as one of the sunniest and driest places in Bulgaria. Within half an hour’s drive there are several wineries to tour, mountains to hike and natural thermal pools to dip into. And if you’d rather have a lazy day on site, put your feet up on the sun terrace around the small swimming pool. Other simple facilities include a smart toilet block and a washing machine (for an extra charge). Fresh drinking water is supplied directly to the pitches and the security gate is firmly locked overnight. If you need a major top-up of supplies, head for the thriving market town of Petrich (15 minutes' drive), or otherwise pick up organic produce from local farmers (the welcoming site owners – who are naturist-friendly – can advise you on where to find them).

Power optional concrete slab caravan site

Liked: The poor husband, and there was a water supply.

Disliked: The woman.
The woman waited for us to set up table, chairs etc, and then told us the price was different to that as advertised and agreed on Pitchup, she brought her own pricing list and demanded additional money and wanted cash and wouldn’t accept bank cards. On top on this your also paying a separate electric additional charge (you are aware of this when booking) so once you’ve paid all her additional made up costs on arrival you are massively over paying for very poor facilities. The woman left it late enough to stop you considering leaving when she approached you with her amended costs, what makes it harder is your locked in the double gates in her back garden where the site is based close to her house, so no privacy, she even tells you what time you woke up in the morning, so you are clearly being watched, you can’t escape easily if you arrive late as there is no other site in the near vicinity.
The woman is very rude, opinionated, unaware of personal space and time. Rude when talking about previous guests who had departed the site.
Not welcoming to families.
Talked continuously about herself trying to make out she is perfection and children of this world are doomed and have no chance in this world and they will grow up government controlled.
Swimming pool was DIY (do it yourself) and dangerous, with broken plastic edges between the tiles, and cracks you could easily cut yourself on.
Much nicer sites 1.5 hours away with proper facilities, modern and a lot better catered for camping and for the same price this woman changed her price to.
The woman has opinions about other countries and voices them very inappropriately.
Her opinions are not appreciated and offensive, the price change is not acceptable, shockingly the woman tries to blame pitchup and tells you if you have an issue take it up with pitchup and not her.
We would not return even if it was free.
The poor husband was silent with a smile.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. As far as I know, I am NOT rude. Nobody is perfect and not everyone has the same tastes or opinions about the world we all live in, or how governments control people. Our pool is not dangerous and we would like to understand what you did in our pool!? We accept advice to improve. People are free to express their own opinions about life and our world. Sorry you were so offended, maybe you were not in a good mood and having a terrible day.

Local attractions

Want to be out and about on foot? Trek up to the spectacular Mangaro or Dabitsata falls in Belasitsa Nature Park (40 minutes’ drive), or turn west and hike into a forested gorge to picnic overlooking the dramatic Leshnishki Waterfall (50 minutes). Anglers can fish the Struma river (20 minutes), and there are cycling and walking trails criss-crossing the foothills of Pirin National Park (an hour). Just over the border into Greece is Kerkini Lake National Park (50 minutes), where footpaths lead to a lake that's home to flamingos and pelicans. Closer to base camp, you can take a dip in steaming waters at the natural mineral baths in Rupite (25 minutes). For a taster of Bulgarian history and culture, tour the crumbling remains of the once-important Thracian town of Heraclea Sintica (half an hour), where Alexander the Great started his military campaign. There are ornate frescoes in the chapel at medieval Rozhen Monastery (40 minutes); coming more up to date, you can visit the simple peasant home of blind 20th-century mystic Baba Vanga in Petrich (20 minutes).
