General

  • Countryside site 4km from Vielsalm
  • Ten minutes from the Coo waterfalls and 20 minutes from Luxembourg
  • Pool, sports courts, playground and snack bar

Belgian town, Belgian countryside and activities and attractions all around are what's up for grabs at Camping Les Neufs Prés, a family-friendly site in a green and forested spot only ten minutes' drive from the famed Coo waterfalls.

Based in the lovely – and woody – Province of Luxembourg, Les Neufs Prés is in a rural setting but four kilometres from the scenic town of Vielsalm and 20 minutes from the Luxembourg border. It's near a river for those angling for fishing or canoeing, in an area crisscrossed by kilometres' worth of walking and cycling routes.

This is a handsomely laid out park with well-maintained facilities: guests have access to a heated pool, courts for tennis, basketball, badminton and volleyball, a play area, a TV room, and a snack bar for drinks and bites.

The hot showers are free, and there are also toilets, a washing-up area and chemical disposal. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed.

    Valley setting

    Disliked:

Everything was tired and run down. The pool was not available, the cafe/ community space felt as though it was out of season and things were tatty. The cleaner chose to clean the showers at 8.30 on the morning, when most people wanted to use them, and they were generally cold.
There was broken glass on the floor in the washing up area for 36 hours.
Setting has road one side, train line the other, and was quite noisy

We have just arrived home and have had an amazing 10 days. The site itself was very friendly, peaceful and spacious. We were close by (driving) to different shopping places, beautiful walks, museums and other great activity days out. On site washer and drying facilities were useful, the park, pool, mini golf, communal bbq, sports courts, on site little bar/cafe and the food van just outside camp were all good to have to. The most amazing thing was the natural history of the area as where we stayed it was where world war 2 happened. I took two children with autism and they loved the space and freedom the camp gave them. We visited the museum to further educate ourselves. We made some great friends who go year after year and really appreciate the new memories we have made.

    Disliked:

Not really that I disliked it more like things to be mindful of not necessarily just on site more around the shops/attractions. There was a language barrier as not everyone understood english and signs were mostly French and Dutch which was to be expected as we were in another country. We were the only English people on camp although there were plenty that did know English very well to including staff on site. You are close to a train line and do hear trains and cars and sometimes people to but that did not bother us personally. You also have a beautiful river running through the camp. Its animal friendly and we met a few dogs which my children loved especially Jack a staff members dog.

Local attractions

Ten minutes from Camping Les Neufs Prés are the Waterfalls of Coo, reckoned by the campsite team to be the best-known falls in Belgium and a haven for hikers around its foamy heights. An amusement park is at the foot of the falls, along with spectacular views of the Amel Valley and a more active vibe taking on kayaking, cycling or swinging about in the trees.

Museums covering the history of the area as well as its role in World War II are in the region too, such as the Bulge Relics Museum four kilometres away at Vielsalm and the Baugnez 44 Historical Center at Malmedy, a much bigger affair also detailing the Bulgey battle.

Also worth a look are the Musée de Wanne, telling the tale of Ardenne rural life, and the museum on the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, venue of the Belgian Grand Prix, nearby at Stavelot.

A 20-minute drive will take you over the border into Luxembourg City, for swish days around the Grand Ducal Palace, the Place d'Armes square and – camera needed – the Passerelle viaduct.
