  • Family-friendly Carinthia camping with alpine views at Presseggen
  • Half an hour’s drive to Villach and to skiing at Nassfeld-Pressegger
  • Bike hire, pool and kids’ entertainment; restaurant and shop on site
Like the sound of visiting three countries on one camping holiday? Located lakeside in Austria’s scenic and mountainous state of Carinthia, the smart wooden lodges at EuroParcs Pressegger See are in Presseggen and also close to the borders of Italy for trips to the Italian Alps, or Slovenia for whitewater-rafting expeditions on the Sava River. If you’d rather stay put in Austria, walking and cycling trails for all levels start at the site. Take family strolls around the blue waters of Pressegger See lake (perhaps with a swim in the blue water on balmy days) or head off into the forest for adventures in the alpine foothills. Rent e-bikes from the sports shop to take the hard work out of pedalling – and you can also ask in there if you need ideas for the best routes. Back on site, keep up your fitness regime in the gym, do lazy laps of the outdoor pool or skip over to the wellness centre at partner EuroParcs Hermagor – Nassfeld (five minutes’ drive) for an indulgent day in the steam baths and sauna backed by views of the Alps. Everything at EuroParcs Pressegger See is designed to take care of families on an alpine break: a playground has wooden slides and climbing frames for younger kids, and an on-site team is in charge of keeping older offspring entertained. The chalet-style restaurant has all sorts of menus for fussy kids, and if you’re sticking with self-catering, you can pick up essentials at the grocery store.

Panorama 3 bedroom lodge

Liked: The lodge was excellent! Modern, clean, well equipped and looked so stylish. Reception staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. The site is new and construction work was ongoing near the back, but nothing that affected our trip at all. The whole place was clean. Our boys loved the pool and the lake which is a short walk away. We went out of season so it was lovely and quiet too. We found a walk from the back of the site up to a waterfall which was so picturesque, our children loved it. We will definitely be back next year.

Local attractions

There’s never a dull moment for active holidaymakers here. In winter, go skiing at Nassfeld-Pressegger (half an hour’s drive) or skating on Pressegger See (five minutes’ walk). Try paddleboarding on the lake in summer, take the kids to Erlebnispark (five minutes’ drive) for a day on the waterslides and pedalos or take a swan-boat ride along the lakeshore from Badestrand Samerhof-Passriach (10 minutes). Swap getting active out in nature for a day of culture in Villach (half an hour), a lively Carinthian city characterised by pastel-coloured buildings, baroque-era churches and close encounters with monkeys at Affenberg Landskron (40 minutes). At the end of a busy sightseeing day, pick a café in the cobbled square of Hauptplatz and treat the family to a warming hot chocolate. Klagenfurt am Wörthersee (55 minutes), the capital of Carinthia, is known for its bronze dragon fountain in Neuer Platz square, baroque architecture and mini-models of world landmarks at Minimundus. If you have time, make a diversion to the clifftop medieval Hochosterwitz Castle (an hour and 15 minutes); it’s a steep hike up but worth it for its arcaded courtyard, frescoed chapel and views.
