Hillcroft Escapes

Sand fans have whole swathes of beach at their fingertips around here: watch the tide go in and out at Solva (10 minutes' drive), surf the waves at Whitesands Bay (20 minutes) or make for the dog-friendly shores of Druidston Haven (20 minutes) – you're unlikely to be disappointed. Here for a longish spell? You might want to also make the trip south to the brill bits of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park around Saundersfoot (45 minutes). You won't feel hard done by when it comes to historical sites either: Pembrokeshire has roughly 50 castles to explore, and Hillcroft Escapes is close to choice picks like Haverfordwest Castle (20 minutes) and Picton Castle and Gardens (half an hour). Other age-old spots can be seen in St Davids (15 minutes), a small-scale cathedral city with galleries, gift shops and cosy cafés. There's more to Pembrokeshire than beaches and battlements, though – the county can also sort you out with adrenaline rushes at Oakwood Theme Park (30 minutes), ace animals at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (40 minutes) or fine food at Haverfordwest's far-famed farmers' market (20 minutes).
