  • Simple site in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons)
  • A 10-minute walk from Penderyn village; Swansea 40 minutes’ drive
  • Views across the Welsh valleys; hiking trails leading to waterfalls
A 10-minute walk from the village of Penderyn, on the southern fringes of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), Heol Las Farm Just Camping is a family-friendly site on a farm with splendid views across the Welsh valleys and mountains. An extensive network of hiking trails crosses the area, which is known as Waterfall Country – no prizes for guessing why. Following the course of the River Hepste to the west leads to cascades like Sgwd Yr Eira, where you’ll be able to walk behind the curtain of water, and thundering Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn, a splendid spot with a cool pool in which to rest your weary feet. Alternatively, head to Porth yr Ogof (10 minutes’ drive) to find the trailhead for the Four Waterfalls Walk. Paths get wet and pretty slippery, so be sure to pack boots with excellent grip. Admire the wild orchids that grow on the marshy grasslands of Cwm Cadlan Nature Reserve, or check out the former quarries on the slopes of Moel Penderyn (both five minutes). After all that exploration, reward yourself with a visit to Penderyn Brecon Beacons Distillery (five minutes), where you can tour the facilities and sample single-malt Welsh whiskies. There are a couple of pubs in nearby Penderyn village, and shops in Hirwaun (five minutes). Fresh water is available on site, and there is a portable toilet and a washing-up area.

Liked: Such a great place to stay. Very short notice booking but Nia and her son were extremely helpful and accommodating. My wife and myself really did enjoy our short stay and would highly recommend this place. Thanks to Nia for going above and beyond with additional help. Carl and Claire

Liked: The location of the camp site is perfect if you wish to visit the Brecon Beacons waterfalls, as it’s only a short drive away. The facilities are cleaned throughout the day, it also include a shower that has hot water running. Additionally, the owners are so lovely, and they came to check in on us every day we stayed there.

Disliked: There is nothing I disliked.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Great views. Great location for exploring the hills. Friendly staff who tried to help sort issues.

Disliked: Being a very basic sure is not a problem, but the shower didn't work on day one and not properly on day two. There is only one tap which is at the side of the very tough track and on the wrong field. The grass was also so long and in the wet cars got stuck driving onto the field.

Liked: Myself and my girlfriend visited for 5 nights (extended due to storms), and we were on a motorcycle. There is an appropriate place for a motorcycle to park near the farm entrance - I would discourage others from trying to ride up to the site unless you have an adv bike / off road tyres as the gravel on the track up is very large and loose. The views were stunning and the pitch had a lot of space and flat ground. The toilets (there were 3) were kept very clean and stocked with toilet paper, as well as a hand wash basin with soap. There is a shower, however the pump was not working during our stay, though the owners did get a new battery and were working on fixing it. I am sure it is likely already fixed. The owners were also very helpful, offering to take our things up to the pitch site on their atv. We also caught a lift to the four waterfalls walk which was very appreciated. Overall, it was a very accommodating stay and we would reccomend.

Liked: Views and surrounding area were idyllic. Lovely and open so could watch the sunset from almost anywhere in the camp. Lovely oak trees in the field too. Friendly and welcoming family-based staff. Basic amenities were enough to get by with for simple camping - the solar shower was a lovely touch too.

Disliked: Would have been better if the grass was kept trimmed a bit shorter, as it held a lot of moisture. Drinking water area would benefit from a basic sink or similar to contain the runoff, so when washing up or similar it doesn't just soak all the ground around the tap. A bit pricey given how basic it was too: other similar campsites are cheaper or offer better facilities for that price.

Liked: The owners are super friendly. The views are beautiful. There is a pub called the Red Lion that has incredible food, it is hard to find it but the owners can give you directions, 15 minute walk. Surrounded by sheep and it is very peaceful. Only 35 minutes from Porthcawl, so ideal to go to the seaside from there.

Dating from the late 19th century, Mumbles Pier is an iron structure with a fishing platform and a lifeboat station at the end.
