Come for the farmyard fun – stay for the walks, beach days, watersports, family attractions… Maes Carafanau Penbryn Caravan Site is part of a working farm in the village of Gwalchmai, and it’s a fabulous spot indeed for families, couples and solo visitors alike. As you may expect from a farm, there’s lovely green scenery all around here, with paths leading directly from the site to some scenic walking and bike trails. And of course there are farm animals too – this place is home to chickens, sheep, horses and ponies. Facilities here include a play area for the kids and a dog field where visiting canines can have a good run about. There’s also a well-equipped modern bathroom block with toilets, showers, an accessible/family bathroom and a washing-up area. An Elsan point and grey waste point are also provided, and there are picnic tables for your meals (perhaps cooked on a barbecue, which you’re welcome to bring along). The village centre is five minutes’ walk away for a shop, pub and bus stop. This is a rural location, but it’s also a strategic one for getting out to explore all that Anglesey has to offer. It’s fairly central within the island, and nearby access to the A5 and A55 means that it’s easy to get to whichever attractions and activities you’d like to fill your days with – even Beaumaris, at the far eastern end of the island, is only 25 minutes’ drive away.

Cracking new campsite, spick and span with brill modern loos. Pledges are neat, and the owners get heaps of praise for being top blokes – super friendly and helpful. Good spot to see Anglesey. A few grumbles about no shelves in showers and the odd dog off the leash, but the owners are on it with upgrades.

Liked Lovely owners. The site was very smart and well looked after.
Facilities were immaculate. The music in the toilet/shower block was a nice touch.
The slide was a big hit with our daughter.

Disliked Nothing that we disliked. But noted it would be nice to have hand sanitiser at the elsan point and some anti slip flooring/mats in the showers

Liked Absolutely brilliant site well maintained and we were made very welcome by ZOE and partner the facilities ie showers and toilets probably the best I've seen on any other site we've stayed at also the facilities room with washing machine and dryer microwave and coffee and tea making catered for made this site a 5 star plus will definitely be going next season

Liked The cleanest and most spotless toilets around. Music is a great touch. Rained during our stay but well drained. Would definitely recommend. Perfect for exploring Anglesey. Our battery was flat in the morning and one of the owners was very helpful and friendly and gave our van a jump start. Very friendly staff all around

Liked Warm welcome upon arrival. Well laid out pitches with own water supply. Very new and clean amenities, great shower cubicles. I was allocated a grass pitch in front of the dedicated dog exercise area which was really thoughtful, consideration had been given for my dog. Although I travelled solo I could see this was a lovely sight for families with a small play area and a chicken coop.

Liked Everything was in tiptop condition really friendly staff came and introduced themselves to everyone who was there good pitches and level plenty of room brand new toilet/shower block can’t say enough how nice the site is they have fresh eggs on sale for your breakfast fantastic place can’t wait to return

Disliked Only booked for 1 night wish we had known how nice it was would have been a few nights

Local attractions

Anglesey is an island, of course, so the coast is always a big draw. You may like to seek out natural attractions like South Stack island (25 minutes’ drive), head to beaches like Rhosneigr (10 minutes) and Benllech (25 minutes) or take a boat ride from Beaumaris (25 minutes) to Puffin Island. For walkers, there’s always the option of a jaunt along the Anglesey Coastal Path (or part of it anyway – the whole thing is about 135 miles long). The colourful surroundings of former copper mine Parys Mountain (half an hour) are also lovely to walk through, or you could head to Newborough (20 minutes) to walk through the pine forest to the beach and out to Ynys Llanddwyn. Beaumaris Castle (25 minutes) and Plas Newydd House and Gardens (20 minutes) are top picks for historic buildings to visit; for family days out, try Pili Palas Nature World (15 minutes), Anglesey Sea Zoo (25 minutes) or GreenWood Family Park (25 minutes).
