  • Family holiday park in the grounds of an 18th-century listed building
  • Aberdyfi 20 minutes' drive; half an hour from Barmouth
  • Play area and laundry facilities; pub and station five minutes' walk
Whether you’re getting out over rugged peaks or green clifftops, Hendre Hall Holiday Park is a fine spot for exploring the Cardigan Bay coast and the gorgeous countryside of the Cambrian mountains in Snowdonia National Park. Sitting between the two, this site is located in the grounds of Hendre Hall, an attractive listed building that dates back to the 18th century – making it a historic base for exploring the green hills that make this landscape one of the prettiest in Britain. Have your camera at the ready to capture some of the sunsets that light up the sky in the west. You may also want to take photos of the food, the hills and the many miles of spectacular coastline, including views over to the Llŷn Peninsula, Snowdon, Barmouth and Bardsey Island. With a bit of luck, you may see the dolphins that live in Cardigan Bay too. Sea and sand on your mind? That's not a surprise – the nearest beach is about a five-minute walk away along a footpath that is directly accessible from the site. Llwyngwril's other amenities, like a friendly local pub, a railway station and a small shop, are also about five minutes' walk away. There are solid on-site facilities at Hendre Hall Holiday Park too, including toilets, showers, a wash house with laundry facilities and a recycling area. Kids are very welcome here and have a playground all to themselves; dogs are allowed to come and explore the area by your side too. Hendre Hall Holiday Park is also home to pygmy goats and chickens which can be visited and fed. Please note that this is a family site and that quiet hours are in force after 10.30pm.

What customers say

Clean, friendly, top spot with stunning sea/mountain views. Easy walk to beach & train. Good-sized pitches, great staff. Bar, cafe, shop are a hit. Some found toilets/showers limited at busy times, coin showers a tad annoying. Highly recommended for location, vibe & value.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Lovely location, close to the beach, friendly staff, great cafe/bar that’s open all day, close to train station, nice atmosphere.

Disliked Shop is small and has lovely foods but need to go to the village shop for general essentials really - not a problem as it’s a 10min walk max.

Liked Lovely welcome from the lady in the reception / shop. Shop had lots of nice local produce to try.

Few minute walk down to a lovely beach. Donkeys on site provided lots of entertainment from the back of our van.

Short walk into the village with a nice friendly pub where me and my Son were made to feel very welcome.

Disliked Only a couple of showers which you needed to pay for, but £1 covered a long shower so no problem really.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We're so pleased you found Hendre Hall and Llwyngwril a welcoming place Sarah. I'll pass your comments about the shower to the owners for consideration.

Had a lovely stay and enjoyed the clear nights to stargaze.

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked Unfortunately on this trip nothing, all the problems just seemed to accentuate noises. The train, the sheep on a hill. On top of everything I'm still waiting for a refund on my 2 nights and had to pay for another 2 nights in a much better site

Disliked Beware....My issues started all because I booked a different pitch one closer to the toilets. Cos I didn't wanna walk far. I called him over as i like to keep my walking minimal necessary only. Camping was always going to be challenging i normally stand maximum 2 hours a day. Im 42 and due for a knee operation at the end of the year. He didnt seem to want to come maybe he saw that as rude it wasn't i was requesting he come and talk to me about the issue it shouldn't be a problem my knee problemsor not. He said to me oh you sound I finished his sentence and said disappointed. He said no emotional. I remember you wanted to cancel last yr wasnt it the weather. Didnt respond but have the emails attached it was because my daughter was poorly and didnt want to lose out. Non refundable though. Id made a comment in passing on the weather when we turned up polite small talk thats all. As he was set on being misogynist and derogatory attitude towards me. let it pass as id been insulted to my limit! Was close to tears so i left saying id return. Then I left and went beach for 2 hrs came bk set up my tent. Sent my daughter who 2 months away from turning 9 years old to get some water and he said she can't do that has to be accompanied by an adult. So I went and asked him why did he say that. He shouldn't be speaking to any child he should go and spk to the parent. If your happy with someone addressing an issue that is minimal with your children then fine. He said I was rude to staff I said how I didn't swear didn't shout or anything. I said I just wanted the pitch I booked because of my knees he said save me the sob story. You've broken multiple park rules under 18 yr old unattended, rude to staff qualified as asking for what i paid for and driving fast if you say one more word your getting kicked off. He owns it so lose lose. I wouldn't mind bt a 5 year old just ran past me no parents with him. So because I complained my daughter must stay with me at all times everybody else can have a normal holiday very disappointing. When I'm not being threatened with being kicked off for nothing with my child late in the evening without anywhere to stay because I'm not allowed to say a word that goes against someone who's been extremely rude and nasty with me. Even if im only trying to prove for what reason I'll never no that I never once acted out of order. Nothing more nothing less and call him out on then targeting my family for no reason. I'll be complaining as much as I like. So, much so I've had to leave my holiday 3 days early and pay for another site. If the area you have booked is full mine was the motor home or tent area you'll be put in the other tent area which is much further from facilities and doesn't have a sea view has a sky and hedge view because they over subscribed that field and given drive through motorhomes priority. My previous experience last Yr was good but like my daughter said people change. I'm absolutely disgusted with the way I've been spoken too.

From the manager: Dear Kelly, You opted to leave early therefore no refund is due. We can never guarantee what pitches are available when campers arrive, and unfortunately for you this time, you weren't able to be close to the toilets. This issue is out of our hands. Had you of arrived at 1pm you could have chosen from several pitches, however you chose to arrive at 7pm at night, leaving only a few to choose from. Your behavior towards our very friendly and helpful office staff was unacceptable and will not be tolerated. All the best.

Powered grass caravan site

Liked Location, ease of access of A494, proximity to beach - 5 mins easy walk, lovely rocks and sand on beach. Spacious pitches, clean, friendly, good facilities.

Disliked Personally disliked nothing, possibly the train though all the kids on the site gathered to wave at them!( only 6 ish per day and not high speed) might bother some and lack of wi fi though I was fine on EE, partner couldn't on different provider. You can also pay for wi fi onsite.

From the manager: Thanks for the review, we're pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. There is free wifi around the main hall, which houses the bar, coffee shop and farm shop - the password is on the bar chalkboard - hope that helps for your next visit :-)

Local attractions

When you set down here, ready your swimming gear, as Bala Lake (40 minutes’ drive) is a fine setting for sailing, wild swimming and canoeing or hiking the hills on all sides. The kit will come in handy for exploring the Barmouth (30 minutes) seafront by paddleboard, too, or windsurfing and kitesurfing in Aberdyfi (20 minutes). If more active pursuits are what you like your holidays chock-full with, Dolgellau (20 minutes) is a good point of departure for hikes, mountain biking or climbing crags. More beach paddles, perhaps, in Tywyn (15 minutes), followed by a traditional butter bun? Perhaps your preferred way of taking in views is from a cosy seat on an old steam train, such as the Fairbourne Railway (five minutes). It’s one of several historical places you might want to seek out – others include the Dyffryn Ardudwy burial chamber (40 minutes) and the Italian-style Portmeirion (50 minutes) village. Plas Brondanw Gardens (50 minutes) was designed by the same architect that created Portmeirion.
