  • Family holiday park in the grounds of an 18th-century listed building
  • Aberdyfi 20 minutes' drive; half an hour from Barmouth
  • Play area and laundry facilities; pub and station five minutes' walk
Whether you’re getting out over rugged peaks or green clifftops, Hendre Hall Holiday Park is a fine spot for exploring the Cardigan Bay coast and the gorgeous countryside of the Cambrian mountains in Snowdonia National Park. Sitting between the two, this site is located in the grounds of Hendre Hall, an attractive listed building that dates back to the 18th century – making it a historic base for exploring the green hills that make this landscape one of the prettiest in Britain. Have your camera at the ready to capture some of the sunsets that light up the sky in the west. You may also want to take photos of the food, the hills and the many miles of spectacular coastline, including views over to the Llŷn Peninsula, Snowdon, Barmouth and Bardsey Island. With a bit of luck, you may see the dolphins that live in Cardigan Bay too. Sea and sand on your mind? That's not a surprise – the nearest beach is about a five-minute walk away along a footpath that is directly accessible from the site. Llwyngwril's other amenities, like a friendly local pub, a railway station and a small shop, are also about five minutes' walk away. There are solid on-site facilities at Hendre Hall Holiday Park too, including toilets, showers, a wash house with laundry facilities and a recycling area. Kids are very welcome here and have a playground all to themselves; dogs are allowed to come and explore the area by your side too. Hendre Hall Holiday Park is also home to pygmy goats and chickens which can be visited and fed. Please note that this is a family site and that quiet hours are in force after 10.30pm.

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked Upon arrival we were greated by a friendly staff member at reception who give us a great tour of the site, pointing out the amenities and pitches. We had the opportunity to choose our own pitch so we stayed next to the pygmy goats in our campervan. There's a great 5 minute walk to the beach where you pass the (assumed site) Mediterranean donkeys! Lush!
The toilet and showers were always clean and tidy. 20p for a shower for 3 minutes or £1 for 15 minutes.
We took a short drive to Morfa Mawddach train station to park up for FREE and took a walk over the foot and train bridge to Barmouth Town. Spent 3 hours there, including our 25 minute walk each way, had food and ice cream and a little sandy beach stroll.
The onside bar and restaurant at Hendre Hall campsite were a delight. We had breakfast on departure. Streak bacon pancakes maple syrup and a Oat milk latte and a small welsh breakfast. Both absolutely lush, tasty and local ingredients. On top of this delight was a well stocked farm shop.
The wash facilities also had a washing machine and a fridge freezer. Also available were ice packs for those cooler boxes if you needed to keep them cooler for longer etc
Staff were very friendly and made a fuss of our 2 dogs. Highly recommended and we will no doubt be back again!

Liked Very peaceful. Great host who gave us good local information. Pub and shop close by plus shop on site and cafe next door. Beach access and donkeys and goats across the fence.Train to Barmouth a stroll away.

Disliked Pay as you go showers. Not expensive but you need some coins as 20 p lasts 3 minutes. You can put a one pound coin in.

Liked A lovely quiet site even though a railway line runs adjacent only about 4 trains the whole day .We had a beautiful sea view from our pitch .The showers were hot and 20p which was apple time if your not washing your hair but even so 40p I was willing to pay .Site clean and tidy .A good recycling system. And we were very impressed with Dog poo bags available on the gates leading to the beach and dog walks Cafe on site as well .

Disliked I think the showers should have a mop or squeezy to clean the floors after use .Other than that nothing

Only spent one night but will definitely return to spend more time.

Liked Arrived late and exhausted to find a well serviced site: easy hook up, nice clean showers and facilities etc. Best of all, the owner allowed us to use the new sauna on arrival free of charge! The coastal location is beautiful.

Liked The sea views and the short walk with direct access to the beach. Nice sized pitches with EHU. Toilet block basic but clean. Farm shop and cafe on site.

Disliked Only one water standpipe for all the pitches. Extra charge for the showers and no hot water available in toilet block
No where to dispose of grey waste water.

the train makes it easy to get to most of coastal places in N Wales.

Peninsula camping pod

Liked Unfortunately I didn't like much.

Disliked The pod was not the same one as on the picture, so they need to sort that out. It was the most uncomfortable sleep I've ever had I think the owner needs to try and sleep on there own mattress which was like a old folks home piss protector one. The pod rocked about when walking in it, it's smelled like old socks, the window handle was broke couldn't open the window. The next thing is I booked there because it said ev charger because it's a nightmare charging in Wales, and guess what we couldn't get it working, told a member of staff and she wasn't interested, just apologised. The breakfast was nearly £14 without a cup of tea and was average, what's with the 4 beans just don't bother, there's a railway track 10ft infront of the pod aswell and they blow there horn everytime they go past but if you like that sort of thing then your laughing. I went to the bar at night, it's the warmest pint in Wales let me tell you.. sorry but I won't be bk and wouldn't recommend it

Local attractions

When you set down here, ready your swimming gear, as Bala Lake (40 minutes’ drive) is a fine setting for sailing, wild swimming and canoeing or hiking the hills on all sides. The kit will come in handy for exploring the Barmouth (30 minutes) seafront by paddleboard, too, or windsurfing and kitesurfing in Aberdyfi (20 minutes). If more active pursuits are what you like your holidays chock-full with, Dolgellau (20 minutes) is a good point of departure for hikes, mountain biking or climbing crags. More beach paddles, perhaps, in Tywyn (15 minutes), followed by a traditional butter bun? Perhaps your preferred way of taking in views is from a cosy seat on an old steam train, such as the Fairbourne Railway (five minutes). It’s one of several historical places you might want to seek out – others include the Dyffryn Ardudwy burial chamber (40 minutes) and the Italian-style Portmeirion (50 minutes) village. Plas Brondanw Gardens (50 minutes) was designed by the same architect that created Portmeirion.
