General

  • Off-grid grass pitches with fabulous views of Snowdonia National Park
  • A 15-minute drive to Caernarfon and Snowdon Mountain Railway
  • Barn with showers, drying area and storage for bikes or kayaks

Set in truly spectacular Caernarfon countryside, Pen y Bwlch overlooks mountains and rivers whichever way you turn. Just on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, this is a secluded retreat with lots of space that lends itself equally well to romantic getaways and relaxed family breaks.

Off grid this place most certainly is, but it’s also only a 15-minute drive from Llanberis, at the foot of Snowdon – and the gateway to walking, cycling and climbing adventures in the national park – a bonus for all you active types out there.

A round up of simple facilities includes an eco-composting toilet near the camping field and a hot shower in the barn a short walk away, where you can also dry your clothes (this is Wales, remember) – and there’s also room to store your bikes and kayaks.

It’s worth noting that open fires aren’t permitted in this untamed part of Snowdonia, so firepit-style barbecues aren’t allowed. And one house rule please: this site is all about relaxing in nature, so please don’t play loud music after 8pm.

Made to feel very welcome by Beth and Johnny, pitch was superbly located overlooking a lake in a valley surrounded by mountains. During the evening we were visited by 2 inquisitive sheep which roamed freely grazing in the field.
Site was extremely tranquil and generous spaces between pitches ensured that the site felt very private.
Washing and toilet facilities were excellent, and kept clean at all times.
Would highly recommend this site and cannot wait to return again next year, hopefully with a bigger tent!

If you’re after basic, no electricity/Wi-Fi camping with peace and quite, with the best location this is for you. Definitely a must for walkers and adventurers.

The views were spectacular, you can see it all, Mountains and Lakes and even the ocean. Great location in close proximity to Snowdon and the rest of North Wales. The tent pitches weren't crowded together. The hosts were lovely, always offering to help out wherever they could. Lots of wildlife about including sheep, cows, a donkey, a peacock and a couple of friendly cats.

This site was brilliant for us with two young children. The location was picture perfect, gorgeous views to wake up to.
The owners were very kind and helpful and went out of their way to accommodate us and show the children around to see all of their animals. The bell tent was clean and very roomy. The location was a great base for exploring, with Llanberis on your doorstep. We will most definitely be back next summer. Thank you!
