  • Laidback site with 8.5 acres in Bryneglwys village
  • A 25-minute drive from Lake Bala and 40 minutes from Chester
  • Fresh eggs, friendly farm animals and a well-stocked outdoor bar
A chilled site in a quiet corner of Denbighshire, New Inn is a fine place to bag a relaxed rural break. With its splendid views, this popular little spot is within easy reach of attractions in and around Snowdonia, Chester and beyond. Although the former pub is permanently closed, it has a well-stocked outdoor bar called the Wobbly Dog selling draft beer and seasonal local produce. The peaceful park is also a five-minute stroll from Bryneglwys village centre, where the local stores and tea room are on hand to sort out any off-site food needs. Need to organise a bulk shop? Corwen (15 minutes' drive) is home to a bigger range of grocery shops. One of the big draws of New Inn is the number of simple pleasures to be had here, like collecting your own eggs from the site's friendly hens or watching the tame sheep frolicking through the grass. There's also ample room for setting up bonfires or barbecues and for roaming through the wilder parts of the 8.5-acre grounds. The facilities at this back to basics spot are low-key but well-maintained, with a toilet block that's got four toilets, four hot-water sinks, two showers and a washing-up sink. Phone charging is available too, to help you keep power up for your outings.

Liked We love everything about the New inn. We often travel there as a couple & also bring children. It is a camping site for everyone. We love the lay out of the site & also the space the site as a whole has to offer. Beautiful views & so quiet. Lee & Michaela are great hosts & always about if you need help.

Disliked Nothing we love it all

Unpowered grass tent site (large, no pets)

Liked New Inn is brilliant for families. There was lots of space in between pitches and plenty of room per pitch. The kids were well entertained with the roaming chickens and with no cars on site they could roam freely and safely. Lee, the owner, is a lovely man and ws super helpful on arrival. He even puts on saturday night marshamallow toasting/smores making for all families and his self-built outdoot bar is brilliant - freshly poured pints, coffee and other items you need for camping. Great location as well - far enough way from civilisation and close enough if you need something. Only a 20 min drive into Llangollen. Showers and toilets on site were nice and clean as well. Will definitely be visiting again!

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site (pet friendly)

Liked My mum and I had a lovely weekend here, the site has a very friendly feel. We stayed in the pet field which was trimmed grass pitches with lovely wildflowers & tall grass between each pitch offering a bit of screening / privacy. The toilets and showers were spacious in a rustic style. Hired a firepit which was great. Gorgeous scenery. We didn't use The Wobbly Dog bar this time but great to have it there if you want it. Would definitely return.

Disliked Nothing to dislike, the field was quite windy but not sure if that's the position or just the weather that particular weekend... And our tent stayed put so it was a good test of our skills. We must've pegged it down well!

Unpowered grass campervan or trailer tent site (no pets)

Liked The remoteness of the place, really quiet and so calming. The showers were great, clean and hot. Would have liked to sit around the fire pit, but the weather was against us. Friendly host, with a plethora of chickens (I know that is not the collective noun for chickens, but there were a lot and they were friendly too!)

Disliked The weather...the wind was pretty strong from Friday through Saturday, but nobody can control that, obviously!

Unpowered grass tent site (large, no pets)

Liked It was a nice friendly site. Welcomed nicely by the owner in the shop/bar.
They lent me tent pegs, as I had forgotten mine they also had spare gas canisters itself anyone needed them.
They did a bbq and marshmallows on a Saturday, which was lovely, and invited people to feed the chickens and pigs.
There were pre planned spots for people to pitch their tent, which meant that there were spaces between the tents. Meaning that you had more privacy.
The grass was nicely trimmed.

Disliked Not a complaint, but it was a shame I couldn't park my car by the tent overnight, as it gives more privacy.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: glad you liked the uncut meadow between the pitches offering your own space and more privacy. we like a campsite full of free ranging kids not cars.

Local attractions

Get gallivanting through the green grounds of Erddig Hall (30 minutes' drive), Chirk Castle (30 minutes) or Ness Botanic Gardens (50 minutes) for fab floral displays, impressive buildings and splendid outdoor strolls. They have something else in common too: top-rated cafés where you can take afternoon tea in genteel garden surrounds. Those magnificently manicured spots strike a cracking contrast with wilder haunts like the shores of Lake Bala (25 minutes), Castell Dinas Brân (25 minutes) and Horseshoe Falls (20 minutes). There's also scope for giving your walking boots and mountain bikes a run for their money at Oneplanet Adventure (10 minutes), a forest visitor centre surrounded by a host of waymarked trails. Further full-on action can be found at the National White Water Centre (30 minutes), while those of a less intrepid temperament have Chester Zoo (40 minutes) not much further away. After making friends with sloths, elephants and jaguars, saunter down into the centre for a stroll down by the Dee or a laidback riverboat cruise.
