Morphpod at Brandy House Farm: Looking up to the pod

General

  • Cosy glamping stays on a 20-acre smallholding 20 minutes from Knighton
  • Overlooking the River Teme and on Glyndwr's Way National Trail
  • Order a farmhouse breakfast or have it delivered to your unit

A Morphpod – what be that then? Banish any images of space-age blobs: Morphpod at Brandy House Farm is in fact a collection of comfy glamping units scattered around the gorgeous gardens of a 20-acre family-run smallholding, centred around a traditional Welsh longhouse.

Pick a Powys pad here and you’ll be well placed for all sorts of walks and other outdoorsy activities: Brandy House Farm is right on the border of England and Wales, on the edge of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and with Glyndwr’s Way National Trail passing through its grounds.

Not that you’ll need to stray far for views – there’s much to gawp at from the site, and plenty of space in which to lounge while doing so. Picnic tables are strategically placed to take in the vistas, and you can hire firepits to keep your mitts toasty.

Sustenance can be picked up at the supermarket in Knighton (20 minutes away) and then either coal-cooked on your barbecue or heated up in the small communal kitchen (where there’s a microwave, a kettle and a fridge). Pub meals are a couple of miles away if you’d rather leave all the prep to the pros. Breakfast is of course the most important meal of the day – book ahead for a full-on farmhouse feast or to have a basket delivered for a cosy breakfast in bed/in your garden/out in the field.

Toilet and shower facilities are a short stroll away at the farmstead and a waterless eco-toilet is close to the units.

Lovely little camping get away with beautiful quiet scenery.07/09/2020

We really loved the beautiful countryside and the fact that the two pods are side by side with no-one else around, it was a perfect little area to share with our friends.
The doggies loved being outside the whole weekend and the country walks around.
The pods were warm, clean and perfect for a little camping trip away.
Brand House has an excellent procedure in place for Covid-19 and we all felt safe.
We also have our eye on the houses for another trip :)!

    Disliked:

The only tiny things, the Fire Pit was hired for the weekend at £10.00, as it was a fairly cold weekend we went through quite a few logs.
At £10.00 per bag of logs, we personally felt this was a little expensive.

We also wanted to order breakfast one morning, however, again at £7.00 per person we felt it was a little expensive for what you'd get.

We really like the pods. They were small but roomy enough and it was nice to have a real bed!
It was really good to have a room to go into with a kettle and toaster and WiFi and sofas to hide from the rain!
Everyone we met were really friendly.
The scenery and countryside was beautiful.
It was great to find somewhere that allowed my little staffy cross dog to come camping.

    Disliked:

The eco toilet was closed to the pods, which was handy. I just wish the instructions were clearer to know how to let the deposit drop down!
We did like the hut tho, we called it the Shrek toilet!

Stunning location, in a wonderful area. We arrived and were greeted by Medina the owner, who gave us a warm welcome and showed us to our morph pod. We were also shown the toilets, shower, washing up area and communal area. We were offered a fire pit for the evening, which we had, and for £5, as many logs as you needed, Richard even came the next day with an offer of a refill. The farm is beautiful, and so relaxing up in the hills surrounded by beautiful gardens. I spent my morning reading my book, and gazing at the views, my partner went and did a bike ride and was impressed with the Information provided in the communal room on rides straight from the site. We then went out to Clun, Montgomery and Knighton, stopping at the local pub on our way back the Radnorshire arms. Evenings were spent having a bbq and fire pit watching the stars! So many beautiful places villages and towns in the area you will be spoilt for choice.

We stayed here for one night on Saturday 6th April 2019.
Welcome was lovely! lots of horses about on site as there was a teaching day on. Not a problem everyone was nice and friendly.
Very quiet site and out the way which was nice, just a short walk or drive to nearest pub.

We went for a walk all around the site and up the hills near by and had a great time.
WiFi available in the common room.

    Disliked:

The price to hight than what they provide £40 a night but no eidetic no cooker no tv no heating no socket for the weather cold in the night , the price should be £25 a night not £40
The step to walk to Pod really not safe as so small step between each step ( should build as standard step nit for little duck to walk ! ) no parking next to the pod you have to carry all stuff to the pod! To compare with other camping site pod this one charges too much money , the WiFi they free but can’t use as all around no signals you can get WiFi if you hang the phone on the tree by the pod !
Over roll they should charge £25 not £40
The view all around fantastic fave place to look as .

From the manager...

Thankyou for your review, I’m sorry that you weren’t expecting the pod to be off grid; off grid means no services! There is however a common room which i showed you where there is a kettle, and microwave and where there is WiFi. There is no mobile reception in the area.
The PODs are super insulated and have drop down beds and a large covered area for cooking under, I’m sorry that that is not what you expected. They in fact work out at amazing value at only £20 per person for a superior camping pod, but it is a camping experience. You need to bring everything that you would for a camping trip except the tent, table and chairs and beds. As a bonus they are not just in a field but in beautiful landscaped garden areas. the shortest between the PODs & utility area is via steps cut into the landscape but you can go the longer way around along the path and down the slope to them. Yes you are right there is no parking right by them, many of our guests appreciate the car free environment of the pod area.
There is indeed one shower with hot and cold running water, and there is access to hot water for washing up in the utility area. There is a flushing toilet available for guests and we have just located another waterless toilet up by laurel and Sycamore PODs in keeping with our off grid low environmental impact philosophy.

Local attractions

Boots, bikes and binoculars at the ready – the farm is surrounded by woods, rivers, streams and heathland that’s ripe for days of wandering and wildlife spotting. The 135-mile Glyndwr’s Way trail starts from the site, and there are fab views to be had from Beacon Hill (15 minutes’ drive), a 6,000-acre nature reserve where the eagle-eyed may be able to spot peregrine falcons.

No luck on the animal sightings? Perhaps you’ll have more luck at the Red Kite Feeding Station in Rhayader or the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre in Kington (if you can’t spot animals there, something’s gone quite wrong). Both are around 40 minutes away.

Golf courses, horse riding and clay pigeon shooting are all within half an hour if you’re after more alfresco activity; Presteigne and the spa town of Llandrindod Wells are roughly the same distance if you fancy town times. For a dose of house and garden envy, try Whimble Gardens (half an hour), The Hall At Abbey-Cwm-Hir (35 minutes), Gregynog Hall (35 minutes) or the mighty medieval Powis Castle (45 minutes).

Must see

  • Stokesay Castle (26.2 kilometres)
  • Powis Castle & Garden (26.2 kilometres)
  • Ludlow Castle (34.1 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Carding Mill Valley and the Shropshire Hills (30.2 kilometres)
