  • Small family-friendly site in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons
  • Just off the A470, a 10-minute drive from Brecon
  • Peaceful setting next to woodland with a small stream running through
Stand by for action… Rhydywernen Farm Camping Site’s fab family farm location is in a most handy spot for getting out into the Brecon Beacons National Park for days of hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, canoeing, gorge walking and pretty much any other activity you’re up for in this part of Powys. And then, stand by for chilling out… for this is a most peaceful location, with spacious pitches backing onto woodland and a small river that’s prime territory for such classic country pursuits as skimming stones and poking about with little fishing nets in search of minnows. Away from the water's edge guests are encouraged to meet the site's miniature donkeys, helping to feed them and put them to bed in the evenings. Barbecues with a backdrop of the Brecon Beacons are of course a fine way to sort dinner on site (firepits are available to hire, with firewood to buy). If the weather’s not up to it (or you’re just in the mood to let someone else do all the work), there are plenty of pubs, cafés and restaurants up the road in Brecon. Work up an appetite for your eats with an hour-long stroll along quiet country paths, or get in the car for the easy 10-minute journey to town along the A470 (also a handy road for getting to other corners of the national park or heading across country to the north or south). Please note this is a family-friendly site: no open fires, no bad language and no loud music after 10.30pm please. Facilities on site include toilets, a washing-up area and hot showers (just take note that during popular times, the water pressure may be a little lower than usual).

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Obviously the baby donkeys!!! Really friendly and helpful staff, clean toilets and some lovely walks, rivers and waterfalls jusy off the site

Disliked Literally completely lack of space in the camping field, arrived at standard time gave other campers either side plenty of space, all for more and more people to arrive and ended up like sardines, could touch the next car from my tent, I know it’s summer but definitely was over booked, and also I know it’s summer but surrounded by screaming kids, leaving all their toys everywhere including at the bottom of my tent ladder so almost broke my neck in the night going to the toilet

Liked Freundliche Besitzer.

Disliked Duschen nicht nutzbar da das Wasser kochend heiß war.
Relativ viel Müll auf dem Campingplatz.
Wir haben uns bei den Mitcampern nicht wirklich willkommen gefühlt.

From the manager: Hello, we have turn the temperature of the showers down as I explained to you. As for the other campers not making you feel welcome, I’m sorry you felt this. I did see your children were playing with the other children onsite. Thanks

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Fantastic facilities with clean, hot showers and toilets, a fridge and freezer, and a well-maintained washing-up area. The Wi-Fi was also excellent, which made it perfect for working remotely.

The campsite had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. It's in a great location for exploring the surrounding area, with beautiful scenery, and the donkeys were a lovely touch.

I had a wonderful stay and would definitely return. I'd happily recommend this campsite to others. Thank you!

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked This site has the most friendly atmosphere I’ve ever experienced. They are very dog friendly too.
Campers feel able to socialise with each other and even the dogs were making friends. The river was a great spot to cool down. Toilets and showers were clean and well thought out. Really close to Brecon town.

Disliked The donkeys are hysterically funny but they do wake you up during the night.

Local attractions

So much activity awaits in the Brecon Beacons National Park: pick a gentle hike around woods and waterfalls if you want, or get stuck in to scaling Pen y Fan (25 minutes’ drive away and southern Britain’s highest mountain). Horse riders can saddle up at the stables 10 minutes away, while those who like to zoom around on mountain bikes can get some speed up at BikePark Wales (25 minutes). The outdoorsy antics don’t end there – Brecon’s something of a hub for such things, and activity centres around the town can sort you with rafting, canoeing, high ropes courses and gorge scrambling. All sound a bit too exhausting? Take a more leisurely ride on the Brecon Mountain Railway (25 minutes) before heading home via the Penderyn whisky distillery (20 minutes). Break out of the Beacons for trips to some of the area’s other attractions: Llandovery Castle is half an hour away, as is the book-loving town of Hay-on-Wye. A little further north but worth a trip are the lakes of the Elan valley and the red kite feeding station in Rhayader; both are around an hour’s drive away.
