Pitches well kept and in great condition considering all the wet weather we have had recently
Seeing the sun for a while always helps!

  • Peaceful adults-only Wiltshire caravan site near Chippenham
  • Half an hour’s drive to Bath, 10 minutes to Lacock and five to the M4
  • Security barrier and dog-exercise field; pub five minutes’ walk
Neatly manicured grounds and lots of greenery dividing the pitches into bays are just a taster of what's in store at adults-only Plough Lane Caravan Site, near Chippenham in Wiltshire. Thanks to its proximity to the M4 (five minutes’ drive), it’s also thoroughly easy to access (no reversing down narrow lanes for tractors here) as well as being close to the southern Cotswolds and gorgeous historic Bath. The site is secured with a barrier and all pitches have electric hook-ups, water and waste water disposal points. Carefully maintained facilities include a heated shower block with hot water, spacious cubicles and hair dryers, plus a launderette with an iron and dryer. Brought the dogs on holiday too? Let them have an off-lead runaround in the designated exercise field. Looking for inspiration for days out? Have a nose through the books in the information area, which also has books and DVDs to keep you entertained on any rainy days. Although it's on the edge of open countryside, the site still offers lots of local amenities: you can walk to stops on bus routes to Chippenham and the Cotswolds town of Malmesbury within five minutes, and if you like the sound of a pint, there are a couple of pubs within a five-minute drive or a 25-minute walk of the site. Going down the self-catering route? Pick up supplies from the supermarket on the outskirts of Chippenham (five minutes’ drive).

What customers say

This adult-only park has roomy, tidy sites & friendly staff. Facilities (incl. dog area) are generally clean. Easy access to attractions & M4, but some heard road noise (A350). Some facilities need updating, but many want to return for the peaceful vibe & value.

Liked Very easy to find with great access. Reception staff very helpful and friendly. Lots of information available about everything you would need to know. Also lots of books, magazines and DVDs to borrow. Lovely pitch, very flat, large and tidy surrounded by trees and shrubs. Toilets and showers very clean and spacious with the added bonus of shower gel, shampoo and other toiletries. Lots of hanging hooks, seating, hair dryer. Bus stop on main road, 5 minute walk, with regular and reliable buses to Chippenham where you could get change to visit lots of other places. Had a very busy and enjoyable week here, lots to do and see. Great security on entrance. Waste areas so tidy, lots of small areas for general waste and recycling. It was lovely to watch the grey squirrels, the bushes were full of them. Check out time was 12, which was nice, no rushing around on last day. Lastly they do not charge extra for awnings, we have a small van and I will not book anywhere that charges.

Disliked There was nothing to dislike, had a great time.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked I asked for a pitch close to facilities which was arranged and the facilities were found to be very clean. Large pitch was great. Staff polite and very friendly. Really quiet. The noise from the road could hardly be heard

Disliked Not a deal breaker but Information folders with details of walks etc. were kept in the office so not always accessible.
WiFi was a new system and we did find it dropped out quite a lot. However this was being rectified later that week.

Liked Peaceful campsite, spotlessly clean, well-spaced pitches. Lots of information in the reception area, friendly staff. We found a decent cycle route to visit Lacock (11km each way, mainly on cycle paths or shared pedestrian/cycle paths). Others had mentioned the road noise, but it really isn't intrusive, nor that loud and we didn't find it an issue at all (it's more of a slow hum). Good price, would re-visit if we came back to the area.

Local attractions

Fancy a nose around the southern Cotswolds? Lacock (10 minutes’ drive) is a rather lovely place to start, with lots of Georgian cottages and a riverside abbey where scenes from Harry Potter were filmed. Heading north is Castle Combe (15 minutes), often called the prettiest village in England), with a medieval market cross and a sprinkling of cosy tea rooms. Go way back in time to marvel at prehistoric man’s ingenuity with a visit to the stone circles and informative visitor centre at Stonehenge (50 minutes), or get up close to standing stones at Avebury. On the way between these two landmarks, stop off to admire 19th-century engineering skills at Caen Hill Locks (both half an hour) near Devizes, where a series of 29 locks rise up a steep hillside. Another local must-see Longleat (40 minute), with its popular safari tours to spot lions, tigers and giraffes, but if your interests are more city-based, head straight to Bath (half an hour) for its indie shopping and regal architecture, or nip up the M4 to Designer Outlet Swindon (20 minutes) for some serious bargain hunting.
