  • Small, level touring park in Banwell at the foot of the Mendip Hills
  • Two miles from the M5 and five from Weston-Super-Mare
  • Plenty of open space and spectacular views
As the owners of Myrtle Farm Holidays rightly point out, its setting at the foot of Somerset's Mendip Hills means there's something here for all sorts. Weston-super-Mare is only five miles away, hilly hikes are on the doorstep, and within a quick drive you'll be at famed Somerset and Wiltshire spots like Cheddar Gorge, Bristol and Bath, Stonehenge, Longleat and anciently idiosyncratic Glastonbury. Its semi-rural location a mile from the village of Banwell has it easily accessible too: Junction 21 of the M5 and Worle train station are both two miles away and Bristol airport within 11 miles. Under new ownership since 2016, Myrtle Farm is a family-run, small and level touring park, welcoming families and adults, and facing south with excellent views. It's well maintained and spacious with plenty of room for kids to run around. Amenities were updated in 2019 and include a rebuilt shower and toilet block with underfloor heating and disabled facilities, and a new kitchen with a washing machine and tumble dryer, all spotlessly kept and supplied with soap, shower gel and shampoo. A wifi hotspot can be accessed by the amenities. Village pubs, shops, restaurants, takeaways, a post office and a castle (cream teas in the summer, anyone?) are all a mile away at the farm's local village of Banwell.

Field 2 powered grass site (XL)

Liked Booked an xl pitch and it was a great size. All facilities were spotless and cleaned thoroughly throughout the day. Showers were great - kept a constant temperature. The dog field is a good addition. Loved picking and eating apples fresh from the tree. Friendly and welcoming reception.

Disliked Some road noise, but this did reduce overnight, and didn't disturb our sleep.

Field 2 unpowered grass site

Liked Good communication with Diane at the campsite and a nice welcome with an explanation of where everything was. A beautifully maintained site with lovely trees. The pitch was as described - the other side of the hedge was a busy road - but I felt lucky to have found somewhere at short notice on a bank holiday weekend and it didn’t really bother me as I knew to expect it - managed to sleep well enough. The facilities were excellent and kept very clean.

Disliked Would have liked a slightly later check out time than 10 so the dew could have fully dried off the tent before packing up. If it had been 12 I might have managed a quick swim in the sea before packing up. Tide was out by the time I was packed and at the beach but that wasn’t the fault of the camp site🤣 Also as a solo traveller it’s a bit irksome to be charged the same as a couple but again this is pretty standard practice…

Peaceful, quiet perfect for no noisy talkers or reasonable music.

Field 2 powered grass site (XL)

Liked The Good:
Cleanliness & Maintenance:
The campsite was very clean and well maintained. There was a clear cleaning routine in place both in the morning afternoon and night.
Kitchen is equipped with washing machine and tumble dryer at a cost. Fridges. No kettles microwaves or toasters as other reviews said there were.

Friendly Campers:
The other campers we interacted with were friendly and welcoming. Despite our difficult experience, not once did we feel judged or spoken badly about by anyone else on the site.

Peaceful Environment (For Some):
If you’re a family who enjoys early nights, quiet evenings, and low-key camping — this site may be ideal. It’s clearly geared toward a peaceful, laid-back experience where kids can play quietly and adults can chat calmly in deck chairs.

Wifi:
Available but strength weakens after 5-6meters from benches

Bathrooms are nice and very handy as each shower has large space to wash and change in the same cubicle. Hairdryers fitted inside and out in corridor for busy periods.

Location:
Close to town centre and the pier. But right on a busy country road where we heard many racing.

Disliked Strict Noise Rules:
The site manager enforces extremely strict noise rules, both day and night. We were asked to quiet down before 7pm — simply for having music on between ourselves and laughing/talking— and told to extinguish our BBQ with water by 10pm and wouldn't leave us until water was poured over the bbq. Even quiet conversation after that time was not tolerated at 11pm in our own tents as she flashed light inside and said she could hear us and that it needs to stop. We couldnt even talk to one another about the stars as we were gazing at them.

Poor Communication and Attitude from Management:
The manager repeatedly emphasized that she doesn’t usually accept groups of four (despite allowing us), and made us feel like she had done us a favor by letting us book. she was constantly on our tail, even though we are friendly welcoming group who accepts all cultures.
Her approach to communication felt too abrupt and unwelcoming, especially when dealing with concerns or trying to find compromises.

Unclear Website Information:
The website did not make it clear just how strict the rules were, especially around noise levels. Had we known, we might have chosen a different site more suitable for our group dynamic.
The site is called farm holidays, it didn't seem very holiday like more a spiritual retreat.

Unpleasant Facilities Experience:

The bathroom had some hygiene issues, including rusty clothes hangers, dusty extractor fans, and soap residue in shower baskets.

Shower heads are fixed with a metal ring, making it difficult to bathe and reach young children.

The body wash stung my eyes for hours consequently not child-friendly.

Some toilet doors didn’t lock properly, which was inconvenient.

There was visible dust in the air from clogged fans regardless of it being an extractor fan it was still floating down and saw numerous dust balls on floor that had fallen from the fans, leading to sneezing fits during and after showers.

Ground and Safety Hazards:

The field had deep cracks due to dryness, making walking potentially hazardous. Sprinkler management would help yo resolve this.

A loose slab at the entrance to the kitchen area posed a tripping risk, especially for those with mobility issues.

Road Noise:
Field 1 is very close to a loud road. While this isn’t the manager’s fault, it may affect light sleepers or families with small children.

Cut Short Holiday:
Our camping trip, planned for four days, was cut short to two due to the conflict with the site manager with her giving us an ultimatum to keep quiet or find elsewhere (bank holiday nothing would be available at late notice) when going back to say we'll keep it down even more she said she's made the decision to cancel our booking and to leave in the morning. This was especially disappointing for my 3-year-old son, as it was his first holiday and he had been very excited. We had to just drive home and lose our holiday in weston-super-mare. We all was able to carry on in our garden but completely ruined our holiday itself for the kids.

Field 1 powered grass caravan site (small)

Liked Great location, just out of town but easy to reach the motorway, the beach and shops. Peaceful (in field 1). Very nice shower/ toilet block. Spacious pitches, doesn't feel crowded at all. Free WiFi but only works close to the shower block. Good phone and TV signal.

Field 2 unpowered grass site

Liked Very clean and well maintained

Disliked This site says it's peaceful well it's far from that the pitches are literally 3 meters from a main road with constant traffic throughout the night . Stayed 2 nights didn't get hardly any sleep from the noise of cars passing by. You can even feel the vibration from the heavy vehicles. Everyone from pitch E to J said the same thing., a few of us didn't get any sleep all with families . Never been to any campsite with this issue. Constant noise very disappointed as everything was wonderful. No sleep is not a good camping experience... 3 meters from the main road it's no wonder. The day time has a consistent flow of traffic so you never really have peace just the noise of cars. Pitches are all sectioned so you can't even move . Avoid pitches from E on that side. Unfortunately the owner allocates so it's all a gamble if you don't go for electric hook up. So to describe this site as peaceful is really stretching it. I and 4 other families experience can testify that's not the case.

From the manager: Thank you for your review...
As the owner I would like to provide an explanation of the points made both to the reviewer and anyone else reading this.
We are fully aware that the road into Banwell can be noisey to some, many hundreds of people that have stayed on these pitches, have been very happy and left positive reviews.... a very small minority were unaware of their location or disappointed.
When booking these pitches it does clearly state that these pitches run close to the road (separated by a fence & a thick hedge), there are other non electric pitches on site away from the road however these are more expensive.
The reason the site is described as peaceful is down to the vast majority (71%) of our customers reviewing the site as such....not our words.
I think that saying everyone on pitches E-J (yourselves included) were unhappy whilst you were here is an exaggeration, 3 families have extended there stays into this week and are very happy....noone has come to me and asked to be moved or complained. I do wish you had spoken to me regarding your disappointment, there were options to pay for an upgrade to a pitch away from the road, complaining now does not give me chance to put help.
I urge people reading this, to please read the pitch descriptions before booking and our 98% of positive reviews.

Local attractions

The Myrtle Farm Holidays setting at the foot of the Mendip Hills has it perfectly placed for outdoorsy days, with a vast pick of walks, cycle routes, fishing and birdwatching within easy distance. By car, Cheddar village and the famed and fab Cheddar Gorge are very close by, as is the teeny city of Wells with its cathedral and independent shops. The National Trust-managed Victorian Gothic house of Tyntesfield is ten miles away. Another cracking option is Glastonbury, with its independent shops and cafés, museums, Glastonbury Abbey and Glastonbury Tor. The golden sandy beaches, seaside shops and wide range of restaurants and bars at Weston-Super-Mare, Brean and Burnham-on-Sea are all within a short drive. You'll also be within easy driving distance of the cities of Bristol and Bath and their shopping, theatres, cinemas, museums, bars and restaurants. Travel a little further to get to Wiltshire, where must-sees include Stonehenge and Longleat.
