Powered grass site (medium)

Liked A clean well manicured site with good modern facilities. Walking distance to local pub, cafe and village facilities.
Excellent well drained pitch, which despite torrential, continuous overnight thunder rain rained dry. Plenty of electricity posts with extension cabling, and water posts. Well maintained showers and toilet facilities, and motorhome services.
We liked it as an overnight stay.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Liked We stayed here for our first ever camping trip, and we all love it! The vending machines were a great bonus, the facilities were clean 24 hours a day and my kids felt really comfortable here. The reception staff were amazing whenever I needed advice and I was sent an email before arrival for local food areas, which we tried all of, 10/10!! We will be back next year!!

From the manager: Thank you again for your lovely review. We are so glad that your kids felt really comfortable on their first ever camping trip. See you all next year.

Fully-serviced grass site (medium, super)

Liked Clean loos, showers and dishwashing facilities
Great shop
Friendly, helpful staff
Good communication and easy access
Fully serviced pitch was very handy
Playground for the children
WiFi was available

Disliked How close the pitches were, sardines comes to mind!
No privacy, more hedges and greenery required
Too many lights, one on each pitch so very light at night

From the manager: Many thanks for your review and that you liked a lot of things about your stay at the campsite. We hope that you will change your mind about visiting again and stay on a different part of the campsite and pitch that you would prefer.

Powered grass site (medium)

Liked The facilities (showers, toilets etc) were of very good quality but small and cramped. The campsite was very clean and well organised. Well-stocked vending machines that take contactless payment.

Disliked Only a couple of swings and one slide for children. No trees, shrubs or greenery other than on the outer borders of the site. Individual pitches were quite close to each other. The whole camp site rather stark.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for the review and feedback. Sorry you felt our campsite was not for you. However we are pleased you thought it was good quality, very clean and well managed.

Fully-serviced concrete slab tent or motorhome site (super, small)

Liked Clean facilities and professional set up.
Handy 24hour vending machine shop.
Good showers (no timer) with different shower heads.
Showers always open (even during cleaning).
Near to village shop and pub.

Disliked Temporary portacabins for showering and WC / sinks are separate so have to walk between the two.
Site is a bit crammed in when busy (Bank Holiday Weekend)
Roads are gravelly and dusty when dry and hot (August).

From the manager: Thank you for the recommendation, kind review comments and feedback. We do hope you change your mind and visit us again.

Fully-serviced concrete slab tent or motorhome site (super, small)

Liked Vending machines were brilliant, if a little overpriced. Location was good. Cleanliness was impressive all around, seemed like they must have had someone cleaning facilities every few hours. Everything just worked too, which you don't always get nowadays. I think the WiFi was faster than I get at home!

Disliked We were in a lovely quiet corner but there was a group by the toilets being extremely noisy late into the night which would have annoyed us had our pitch been near them. I know the site has rules on this, but good to enforce them.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are so glad that you had a very pleasant stay and thank you for your kind review. We do our best to enforce the noise rule with the night cleaner checking for noise by 10pm. Otherwise, noise should be reported to reception during opening hours or calling the out of hours number on the reception window. We look forward to seeing you both and dog again for another stay.

Very relaxing break and will be back again at some point.
Facilities were clean.

Disliked Because we visited over the August bank holiday, We had to wait for a shower cubicle to become vacant, but no reason to not go back.

Local attractions

However long you stay here (at least a couple of weeks, preferably), there's enough to see and do around Dorset to entertain all ages and tastes. Ditch the car if you prefer: the local bus stop is 150 yards from the farm entrance, to pick up the Jurassic Coast route bus (X53) running from Exeter to Poole. The Portesham Dairy Farm team recommends a climb up to the Hardy Monument on Black Down (five minutes' drive) as a nifty way to see Dorset and its splendid coastline (the monument isn't to the writer Thomas Hardy as you might expect in these parts, but to Vice Admiral Thomas Hardy, a commander at the Battle of Trafalgar; do be sure to tell that to the kids). You should be able to see the Devon coast, the Mendip Hills and the Isle of Wight from here on a clear day; just clamber the 120 steps up to the viewpoint. Also much recommended is Abbotsbury, home of the famed swannery as well as subtropical gardens and a kids' farm (also five minutes' drive), and the golden sands, sand sculptures and fair rides of Weymouth, 15 minutes from the farm. Portland (25 minutes) is also a must: visit the lighthouse, forage for fossils and come down the hill from the top of town for stunning views of the coast and Chesil Beach.
