Trigon Farm: So lucky the icecream van visited!

General

  • Rural site among spectacular scenery on a private farm estate
  • A few miles from Wareham and under 30 minutes to Swanage and Studland
  • Peaceful and family-friendly wildlife haven

Deer in a wildlife haven, ancient oaks in a wide green field, and manor house views on a secluded Dorset site… be tremendously sensible and book Trigon Farm as soon as poss.

Set in a rural field near Wareham with views of Trigon Manor house and arable fields to the left and beyond, this is a fab site for families: hidden away from main roads and traffic, with stacks of space for running around and big scope for mini nature hunters to roam around and spot deer, buzzards and woodpeckers.

There are cows to spy too, as Trigon is on a beef cattle farm with the farming part of the site across the estate; the curious can watch the Trigon cows laze about in the adjoining fields and see the workings of everyday farming all around. Off site, it's a few miles to Wareham from here (Monkey World is a must), and less than half an hour's drive to spectacular Dorset beaches at Studland and Swanage.

And by evening? As befits a site such as this, firepits and barbecues are allowed – so sort your supplies and sit back to snuggle up under the stars. Your closest pitstops for stocking up are the convenience shop and mini market at the Carey Road entrance to Trigon two miles down the lane; much more can be sorted in Wareham's shops and supermarkets or at its Saturday market.

Amenities include four huts with flushing toilets, four shower huts with free hot water, a washing-up area, drinking water taps, and rubbish and recycling bins. The farm has a phone signal as well as 3G and 4G.

Loads of space, facilities very clean, the owners were helpful and friendly, plenty of firewood for campfires (1 basket was enough for 2 nights and a morning fire). Short drives to Corfe Castle and Wareham. Very quiet and kid-friendly.

    Disliked:

Shower water heaters were a bit intermittent, going cold every minute then coming back hot.

Great camp site, clean facilities, friendly owners who came over to greet us on arrival. The bell tent is like having a hotel room under canvas. The kitchen was well equipped. The field was large and had plenty of room for kids to run wild. The tent pitch was massive, the fire in the evening was so relaxing. The site is very well managed and peaceful. Wish we could have booked for longer than 2 days but was booked up.

    Disliked:

Pillows were too flat and the kids found the futons too hard. Other than that no dislikes.

Everything! The Star Bell tent was so well done, looked amazing and delivered on comfort and ease of use, making for a wonderful little family break. The beds were comfy and warm and kitchen had everything we needed.
Rob and Jayne are amazing and checked in on us everyday, filled the drinking water and topped up our logs. We didn’t need too much extra but I get the feeling nothing would have been too much trouble if we had. The facilities on the site are second to none, by far the best we’ve had whilst camping with a constant supply of hot water. The showers and loos are kept clean and well stocked with soap and loo roll and the hand wash sinks are gorgeous!
The site has so much space for the children to play and there are lots of footpaths around to explore too. The shops down the road are well stocked with essentials and Wareham has a good range of local produce available too.
We absolutely loved our stay watching the bird flit around by day, bats and owls by night. Will definitely be back!

Local attractions

As well as its shops – and pubs – Wareham, three miles away, has a pretty quay for picnic spots, a cinema and a public swimming pool, and is the starting point for boat trips to spectacular Poole Harbour. Wareham golf club is less than 10 minutes' drive from the farm.

Hikers should head to the nearby Purbeck Hills or the Dorset Downs (part of the southern England Chalk Group that also includes Salisbury Plain and the South Downs). Top spots for adventuring and exploring days include the famed Old Harry Rocks, Lulworth Cove and Lulworth Castle – and if your junior adventurers are of the Enid Blyton variety, they'll like a look at Corfe Castle too, said to be the inspiration for Kirrin Castle in the Famous Five books.

More walking, as well as cycling, can be sorted at the Sika Trail, two miles away.
