  • One of the closest sites to Bournemouth
  • Sociable atmosphere that respects guests' peace and quiet
  • Lots of water-based activities to do nearby
If your destination is Dorset-based, farm yourself out to the friendly folk at St Leonards Farm Caravan & Camping Park, which is a splendid base for exploring Bournemouth, Poole and the New Forest. This is a place that has sparkling clean loos, toasty hot water for showers and washing up, and well marked-out pitches – clearly these farm folk know what campers want. And canine campers are welcome too. If you want to sizzle your own sausages, you can exchange gas cylinders on site and there are two major supermarkets within five minutes’ drive, or two pubs within a mile and a number of nearby restaurants if you’re feeling lazy/thirsty. St Leonards Farm is a sociable but quiet site and has a 'no noise after 11pm' policy – most welcome if you’re getting up at the crack of dawn for some seaside exploring.

Liked Reasonable pitch size.

Disliked The sites main shower/ toilet block, (which has apparently been there since the 1940's) was very tired and extremely basic.
Only a couple of hooks in each shower cubicle. One bench outside rge cubicles for people's clothes etc.
Another newer portable block with a couple of showers and toilets. Altogether not enough facilities if the site were to get busy.
Traffic noise from adjacent main road and many sirens passing every day/night.
Sadly not for us. We won't be returning.

Good facilities more suitable for families with children

Liked Friendly staff, good size pitch. Toilets, shower and washing facilities all good. Loved the walk near the farm animals. Very well maintained entrance and flowers looked so lovely along the sides. Within walking distance of shops and pub.

Disliked Only complaint really was too many children. There was children either side of us who decided to play together right in the middle near us. My husband had to tell them to stop playing football near the cars, and also picking up stones from the drive. If you have families with children why not put them in a plot together and leave people like us in another plot where it is quieter. It seemed no one took notice of the time to be respectful to other people, so we didn’t have a relaxing break like we hoped for.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked The shower rooms are tidy. We liked that the pitches are divided by hedges, so it is cosy to stay there. A little bit of privacy. The playground is good, if you are travelling with children.

Local attractions

St Leonards Farm is one of the closest sites to Bournemouth, with sandy beaches only seven miles away. There’s loads to do nearby if you’re feeling full of beans – try watersports such as windsurfing, sailing or surfing at Bournemouth’s artificial reef, or get busy with some go-karting, dry slope skiing, golf, fishing or horse-riding in the scenic surrounding countryside. Feeling a bit tired after all that sporty exertion? Take a picnic to nearby Moors Valley Country Park, which has a golf course, cycling routes and outdoor play area, or have a family day out at a plethora of local attractions including Paultons Park, Marwell Zoo, Beaulieu Motor Museum and Wimborne Minster Model Town. Kids will likely enjoy fossil hunting on the Jurassic Coast, and if they’re disappointed by not finding a T-rex skeleton right there and then, you can take them along to the Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, then spoil them with a day out at Adventure Wonderland less than three miles from the park. The site is also an ideal stopover point for the Poole or Portsmouth cross-channel ferries.
