  • Family-run holiday park with stunning views over Woolacombe beach
  • Three-mile sandy beach 15 minutes' walk away along a footpath
  • Indoor and outdoor pools, restaurant and kids' activities on site
Sandy beach on your holiday wishlist? You got it. As the name suggests, Woolacombe Sands Holiday Park is in an excellent location for days on the sands of Woolacombe, on the north Devon coast. A path runs from the site to the beach, taking you down there in about 15-20 minutes without the need to get on the road. And what a beach this is, with three miles of gorgeous golden sand, rockpools to poke about in, and gentle waves for swimming and bodyboarding. Add in summer lifeguards to keep everyone safe and a regular beach cleaning routine and it’s easy to see why this has previously been voted Britain’s best beach. Being so close by, you’ll be able to wander down whenever you like – and you’ll still be able to look at it while you’re on site too, as the pitches are in an elevated position overlooking the sea. And what might you get up to while not at the beach? Well, this family-run park has been in operation for more than 30 years now, and over that time it’s developed a great list of ways to keep everyone happy while on site. The long list of leisure facilities includes indoor and outdoor swimming pools, an amusement arcade, UV bowling, crazy golf, a play park and a kids’ club with all sorts of fun activities (circus skills, painting and bug hunts among them). Keeping everyone fed is easy too – barbecues are allowed, and there’s a well-stocked shop on site, or you can grab a table at the Clubhouse for meals and drinks along with evening entertainment. Dogs are welcome at this park, with a pet wash area provided; human facilities are just as good, with five bathroom blocks and a launderette.

What customers say

Great views, super for kids & modern facilities. Easy beach access, well-stocked shop. Downsides: steep ground, some noise, dodgy Wi-Fi. A few niggles about pitch size & clean amenities.

Unpowered grass campervan or tent site (six person)

Liked Nice welcome from the reception, clean areas, toilets were very clean and mostly empty - showers were a perfect temperature. Had hairdryers - even though they were terrible but at least they were there. Had foot paths down to the beach (still a long walk) and very scenic views. Hills, beach & lovely greenery. Bins on each tent site and a drinking water bit. We had access to the swimming pool with a locker which was nice. Close to the beach. Free WiFi which was lovely - even though it wasn’t fab I can’t complain.

Disliked There were kids banging on our tent from the caravan parts, running around blasting music and shouting at very late hours. We tried to get an electric pitch but it said there weren’t any available even though the entire time we were there, there was all but one free.. The toilets are very annoying to get to as they’re on a hill so does your legs in when you’ve been walking along hilly Devon all day. The entire place is very childish, so not much for adults. The club house prices are extortionate, not that we went in there much as I said it was very childish. There are avenues of tent pitches which was nice but the reception had obviously put all the people coming in our avenue in one big line, would have been nicer if they were a bit spaced out as it got noisy. We had 2 young couples by our tents and 2 elderly people the other side, and the entire of the space opposite was free. The hairdryers were awful, it would take an hour or two to properly dry your hair with them. Lots of people in the site ignore cars driving past and decide to walk in the road when you’re trying to drive, very annoying.

Unpowered grass campervan or tent site (six person)

Liked We love it at this site, soooo close to the beach! Lovely swimming pool and facilities and the food is actually good as camp site food seems to be poor mostly!

Disliked We were in area 4 Pitch two and was a little mission to toilets so would be a pain if had children with us would want to be closer as pitches previously where always closer to the toilets . And we were next to a noisy static that had hot tub outside so was noisy.

Liked Generous amount of space between each pitch.
Great entertainment for everyone.
Very friendly staff.

Disliked Toilets at club house and the toilet/shower blocks weren't very clean!
We could only connect to the wifi at the club house and not at our pitch, which wasn't an issue for us but maybe for some.

Unpowered grass tent site (four person)

Liked Spacious pitches with absolutely breathtaking views of the beach and the surrounding areas. Really easy to find and a super simple check in system. Each avenue has its own fresh drinking water tap and the pitches and roads are very well maintained.

Disliked The price… the sucker you in with a decent pitch price but for a pint at the bar it was £8(?!) a slushie for the kids was £4 each for a small and then the tiniest bowl of frozen chips was a 5er. For a place so perfect, the prices were astronomical, and higher than a London Pub

Liked The location is ideal, just a very short walk into Woolacombe and perfect for the stunning local walks along the coast. The site and the facilities were spotlessly clean and the showers were wonderfully hot. We loved our short stay.

Local attractions

The attractions of Woolacombe beach are likely to fill much of your time – but Devon’s not short of excellent beaches, so if you fancy a change of seaside scenery you might like to hit the surf at Croyde (15 minutes’ drive) or Saunton Sands (20 minutes), or head to Ilfracombe (10 minutes) for the Tunnels beaches – it’s also the port for trips to wildlife-packed Lundy Island. Elsewhere along the coast, you might like to spend the day at Watermouth Castle (20 minutes) and its attached theme park, take a walk around the National Trust’s Baggy Point (25 minutes) or step back in time at the traditional fishing village of Clovelly (50 minutes). Keeping kids amused should be simple around here, with the likes of Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (20 minutes), Exmoor Zoo (25 minutes), Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (25 minutes) and The BIG Sheep amusement park (35 minutes) to choose from.
