General

  • Secluded farm site 10 minutes' drive from Newton Abbot
  • Within half an hour of beaches at Dawlish, Paignton and Teignmouth
  • Fishing lake and café on site; pub within walking distance

Farm, fishing and forest – all these await for folks having a break at Haldon View Campsite. Those first two are right there on site: this secluded spot is on a farm that has its own fishing lake.

And the forest? That’d be the mighty Haldon Forest, 3,500 acres of woodland a mere five-minute drive from the farm. If that’s not enough nature for you, it’s worth noting that Dartmoor National Park is only 20 minutes or so in the other direction – and that’s not all: this nifty spot near Newton Abbot is within a half-hour drive of Exeter, Torquay and Teignmouth too, making it an excellent spot for all sorts of Devon days out.

Snacking needs on site are sorted with a saunter over to the café and small shop, or a visit to the vending machines; if you need to work up an appetite before eats, a woodland walk will take you from the site over a stream bridge and along a bridleway to a country pub. Friendly dogs are welcome to accompany you on this outing, as they are to join you on your Haldon View break (as long as you clean up any mess they make… and your own rubbish, while you’re at it).

Facilities on site include a small play area and a utility room with washing-up sink and washing machine/tumble dryer. The bathroom block (housing four toilets and two showers) crops up time and again in the reviews with guests praising its sparkling cleanliness.

Please note

Bookings must not be for more than 42 consecutive nights.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

This is a family-friendly site, so children will be playing on the swings and around the grounds. If you're likely to find this overly noisy, this may not be the site for you.

For the safety of children there are no cars allowed within the main camping area. If you need to park by your tent then please choose an electric grass pitch which is for motorhomes, tents and caravans. Pitches are no more than 50 metres from car park and most are a lot closer.

We loved staying here. There is no parking on the pitches which we found great as it meant we didn't have to worry about our children running around and playing outside. There weren't many toilets or showers however at no point during our week stay, did we have to queue to use them! The campsite was clean and staff were friendly and helpful. There was one family who put a dampener on our visit by attacking my boy and being generally not a nice family but that could happen at any campsite you visit. We are hoping to stay again next year.

Hi Vanessa
Glad you enjoyed your stay, it was a real shame about the family we had staying on site, they did cause a lot of upset and have caused a few bad reviews! They will not be allowed here again so don't worry!
See you next year.

Sorry we had to kick you off the site but we cant have your type here, you were very rude to others and this behaviour will not be tolerated. There was no need to lie in your feedback! The 3 other campers were all decent families.

The facilities, especially the park for the children. The location was perfect as it was easy to get to where we wanted to go.

    Disliked:

The staff, there was an incident whilst we were on camp that made us uncomfortable and fear for our potential safety. There was no one available for us to contact that evening and the next day we felt as though it wasn’t addressed because the camp is ‘self service’. This only happened on our last night and there were no other issues but by the sounds of it there have been similar incidents on camp. Just a heads up that there may be conflict when you’re there.

From the manager...

Hello
Thanks for your comments, I am aware of a low life family causing problems on site and apologise, sadly we cant vet the guests before they arrive, they have been blocked from booking again. There is always someone available on the phone if needed, these details are emailed to every guest.

Small family friendly site. Our pitch was overlooking the play area so was great for us we could relax on our pitch with our children playing in sight. Had a small shop on site for the essentials and served some wicked ciders.

I love this site. Staff are friendly site is small and quirky. The best bit is no cars near the pitches so kid's can be kids. Definitely looking to rebook next year.
Pitches do slope but thats been part of the fun :) showers and toilets clean and tidy great that there is a decent washing machine and tumble dryer there that are reasonably priced.
Thank you Simon and Dave for making us welcome and giving our kids awesome summer memories...

Local attractions

Stack the bikes on the back of the car or chuck your boots in the boot for the five-minute drive to Haldon Forest, where there are marked-out trails for walkers and mountain bike riders, along with themed routes for the nippers (can you spot a Gruffalo as you go?) Hire bikes at the visitor centre if you’ve not brought your own, tour the forest on Segways or horse rides, or tackle the treetop trails at the Go Ape! adventure park.

If you prefer your fresh air with a salty tinge, head to one of the nearby beaches: Dawlish (15 minutes’ drive), Teignmouth (15 minutes) and Paignton (25 minutes) are all splendid sandy choices. If you pick Paignton it’s also worth scheduling in a bit of time to visit the town’s excellent zoo and/or the Splashdown waterpark.

Folks with small people in tow will no doubt be chuffed to hear that there’s a lengthy list of family-friendly outings to be had around here: you’ll be within a half-hour drive of the Devon Bird of Prey Centre, Buckfast Butterfly Farm, Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary, Babbacombe Model Village and the prehistoric Kents Cavern, to name but a small handful.

Must see

  • Living Coasts (14.3 kilometres)
