  • Peaceful two-acre site under five minutes' walk from Croyde beach
  • Stunning sunset views westward, over the beach, Lundy and Baggy Point
  • Café and bar; surf school, surfboard hire and beach shop on site
It’s quite alright if you decide to unwind all day long at Downend, which is in the peaceful North Devon Area of Outstanding Beauty. Although, you may find that quite hard with there being two surfing beaches on either side of the site: the stunning Croyde beach and Saunton Sands. Yes, you’re in quite the surfer’s playground here… It’ll take you less than five minutes to stroll to Croyde beach along the South West Coast Path. This stunning beach is backed by sand dunes and very popular with swimmers and surfers, although rockpooling and relaxing will pass many more hours too. There’s a lifeguard service on the beach between May and September, and dogs are welcome on the beach outside of these months. There are walks to the village, Baggy Point, Saunton Sands (just over half an hour) and other points on the South West coast path from the site. You may want to stop in one of the two pubs in Croyde (15 minutes’ walk) to eat some pub food or drink real ale and fine wine. Downend has its own café-bar too, which serves Sri Lankan curries and a range of beers, wines and prosecco through the day and evening. Time it right and you’ll get to see one of the site’s incredible sunsets at the same time; the site has a sea view, so sit back and unwind. Clean and bordered by heather and hedgerows, the site has two acres of land. There are clean, modern toilets and showers and a washing-up facility, as well as good, well-drained access for motorhomes. The friendly staff are always on hand should you need them.
