  • Countryside park on 500 acres, 15 minutes' drive from Woolacombe
  • Woodland walks, nature trails, pool and riding centre on site
  • Two on-site bars and a takeaway; play park and miniature golf
Life’s little stresses getting you down? Want to stow yourself away for a countryside break where everything is close to your pitch? Come along to Combe Martin’s Stowford Farm Meadows in north Devon for a bit of de-stressing in a rural setting: the park is a mile from the main road down its own private drive and is a well-placed base from which to explore the best of Devon. Set among 500 acres of Devon woodland and meadows, Stowford Farm Meadows falls into the category of ‘very large’ sites – but fear not if your tastes tend towards the more solitary, as the park is divided into five separate fields and feels like several small sites rolled into one. The overall size means there are heaps of facilities and activities for you to try your hand at, from cantering around on horseback with the help of the on-site riding centre, to driving the kids crazy with your swish moves at the crazy golf. Looking for something a bit quieter? There are marked woodland walks into the wildlife-rich Bittadon valley, with nature trails starting and finishing on site. A heated indoor pool is available for a small extra charge. For putting feet up or letting hair down, the site has two bars (with evening entertainment in peak season) and an on-site takeaway. For supplies, Stowford Farm Meadows has a licensed, well-stocked shop and for your caravan and camping accessories. And finally? Even the dog will de-stress here, with a friendly welcome and a spacious dog-walking area on site…

Fully-serviced concrete slab caravan site

Liked A fantastic site and a perfect location to base yourself for a break in Devon. Brilliant on site facilities and a really well stocked shop. The showers / toilets were clean and warm. The pitch was a good size. Received a very friendly and helpful welcome at reception on arrival. The site was very quiet, but it is very late into the season. Would definitely stay here again.

Liked Clean heated toilet / shower block, good amenities on site (both ideal for colder night camping). Good size pitches.

Disliked Nothing in particular. Be aware this is a large site, although I had no problem getting around.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Very quiet in October: we were in a large touring field with just two other units. The toilet blocks and showers were warm and clean at all times. Reception guy was very helpful when we asked if we could move one pitch to the left due to our short lead not easily reaching the hookup point. Lovely woodland walks from the site and a 20 min drive to the National Trust car park at Woolacombe, from where we had a great day shell collecting and body boarding.
Amazing value in low season.

Disliked Wi-Fi is chargeable and phone signal poor. It would be nice if you were given a tiny amount of free data each day, just enough to check the weather and tide times.

Powered concrete slab caravan site

Liked There is a very nice bar and restaurant on site and the swimming pool is a real asset

Disliked Our pitch was very unlevel and our chocks were not big enough to right this so we spent all weekend in an unlevel motorhome which is not great when you pay for hardstanding. The one thing you would expect is for it to be level.

There is very little signage around the site so finding our pitch number (which was painted on the ground and covered in wet grass cuttings) was almost impossible.

We got lost on the way out with no signage for EXIT which would have been handy.

There was grass cutting taking place and the grass cuttings were everywhere in thick clumps all over the paved areas and therefore made it from peoples shoes into the toilet and shower areas which was very unpleasant. Wet grass cuttings also got into our motorhome which again was avoidable if they had been cleared from the paved areas.

We were pitched at the bottom of a hill next to a hedged area. The walk to the toilet block would have been made much easier had there been a pedestrian path straight across the field as opposed to having to use the road which takes twice as long to walk as it takes you to either the right or left of the block. Walking on the grass was very messy due to the clumped cuttings.

There was only one hand dryer in the toilet block which was huge.

Local attractions

The highlights of north Devon are a pebble throw away, with Combe Martin on the doorstep and the famed harbour and seafront of Ilfracombe a few miles away (if you forget your wetsuit, the clever sorts at Stowford sell them in the on-site shop). Take little monsters to the animatronic dinosaurs, train ride and 250 species of wildlife at Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park where they can help feed the lions or see the birds of prey, or along to Exmoor Zoo for yet more specis to see. Not thrilling enough? Let them see stars at the Milky Way Adventure Park with the tallest rollercoaster in Devon, or whirl about the rides and play areas of The Big Sheep.
