  • Quiet family campsite bordering a fishing lake in Cornish countryside
  • Padstow, Eden Project and Bodmin Jail Attraction all 20 minutes’ drive
  • Off-grid pitches with lakeside walks; shop and pubs 10 minutes’ drive
Fishing anyone? Tregonetha Lake is a small, peaceful – and off-grid – campsite overlooking a two-acre coarse fishing lake, 10 minutes’ drive from the village of St Columb Major and surrounded by untamed Cornish countryside and farmland. Space is allocated on a ‘choose where you want to set up’ basis – although they like cars to be parked in the car park, you're welcome to drive to your pitch to offload your gear and pack up. The biggest draw here is the lake, stocked with carp as well as roach, rudd and bream. To fish here, you will need a current rod licence and all of your own gear. Double pegs are available, giving bags of space for friends to fish together. Not an angler? While on site you can follow lakeside nature walks, keeping any dogs on leads around the water so you don’t disturb the fishing. Within easy reach of several of Cornwall’s biggest visitor draws, including the Eden Project and Bodmin Jail Attraction (both less than half an hour’s drive), the site is also close to north and south beaches. Barbecues are permitted; replenish your supplies at the mini-market in St Columb Major, where there are also a couple of pubs and a fish and chip shop. If you're during high season, you're lucky: the lakeside Wildlife Bar and Kitchen is open for breakfast every day (from 8am to 10am) and serves drinks, pizzas and loaded nachos on Thursday and Friday evenings, as well as Saturday afternoons and evenings. From Sunday to Wednesday (still within high season only), you also have the option of pre-ordering your evening meals to be ready from 5pm to 9pm. As Tregonetha Lake is off grid, there are no electric hook-ups available, but the owners do offer a device charging service. Just be sure to pack torches and spare batteries.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked Absolutely stunning campsite around a beautiful lake. Very relaxing. Excellent facilities that were very clean and well kept. Owners very friendly and laid back. As me and my friend were in my campervan and had all our food with us, we didn't actually need to buy a pizza from thier pizza bar, but we couldn't resist, and it was lovely. Bar area opens for a few hours in the evenings and morning which was a really nice option if you wanted it. This place is only a 20 minute drive from my house and I will be back again with my husband and dogs next time! 10/10.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Liked Where do I start…

The hosts Mel n Tom are so down to earth. Nothing is too much of a problem. Absolutely amazing people 😊

The location is very tranquil and pretty much central to a lot of places.

It was so peaceful fishing on the lake and watching the sun go down was even better!

And as for the food…1st class 😋

Went with my 2 boy’s Jack n Charlie who are 13 and 15 who absolutely loved it and want to go back next year without doubt.

A big thank you to Mel n Tom 👏

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (lake view)

Liked Stunning eco site with just the right level of bougie that makes you feel like you’re glamping but only paying for camping!! This site is only going to get better and better so book while you can!

Booked to be near family in Colomb St Major but found it really convenient to visit Falmouth, St Ives and Newquay as well as the Bedruthan Steps and Mawgan Porth beach which are really close. Was a great way to see lots of beautiful Cornish countryside and was never held up despite being there mid August so don’t be put off that it’s further from the coast than other sites. The magic of sunset over the lake is well worth a few extra miles.

Showers are hot and the most spacious I’ve seen in years; no horrid curtains and lots of hooks and ledges for all your bits and bobs! Plus there’s free eco shower gel in case you’ve forgotten yours!

Congrats to Tom and Mel for a fantastic vision and being superb hosts.

Absolutely loved my stay, thank you ☺️

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (lake view)

Liked Spotless clean, loved the whole vibe

Disliked The field was a bit too crowded but understandable as it being so popular with guests , it would have been a 10/10 if it was either a touch bigger or reduced the amount of campers slightly but honestly it wouldn’t put me off coming again we loved it and could feel the love the owners have for the place. I expect to see it on tv at some point as it’s a little gem that will be famous

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (lake view)

Liked As a family we loved the camp, 2 adults and 2 teenagers.
It was quiet but a little hum of others enjoying themselves around the fire pits.
New Wildfire refreshments made breakfast and dinner an easy option and having a little drink while you wait.
We loved the rustic feel to the washing area and the compost toilets were something new but easy to use.
We loved our long weekend and look forward to returning.
The owners are extremely nice and make you feel so welcome.
