Local attractions

Polzeath village is just under a mile away by road and boasts one of Cornwall's best surfing beaches. The beach is popular with families as it is manned by RNLI lifeguards daily between Easter and September each year. It is also a prestigious Blue Flag award beach for cleanliness. The village itself boasts a comprehensively stocked Spar shop for all your day to day needs whilst camping and there are a choice of beach cafe's and restaurants to choose from if you wish to eat out or grab a take away. Ann's Cottage Surf Shop sits in pride of place in the centre of Polzeath to cater for all your surfing needs. Not surfed before, they do wetsuit and surf board hire from as little as £5 per hour, so there is no excuse for not giving it a try! Further afield you have the market town of Wadebridge with its quirky independent shops, most major banks and a couple of decent sized supermarkets. This is also the start of the Camel trail where you can cycle in safety to either the coastal town of Padstow (Home of TV Chef Rick Stein) or head in the other direction up on to Bodmin Moor. Not bought your bikes with you? No Problem you can hire all the equipment in town! Other nearby places to visit include the pretty fishing village of Port Isaac, better known as "Port Wenn" from Doc Martin. Further up the coast you have Tintagel with its historic castle remains and also the small harbour village of Boscastle. NS1 : Spectacular views across the bay and inland towards Bodmin Moor NS2 : Vibrant fishing villages and harbour towns within easy reach NS3 : Café on site and Polzeath beach, pubs and shops nearby Desc : South Winds is a quiet and spacious family site overlooking the Camel estuary, part of the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A 20-minute meadow walk will take you from the site to Polzeath village where you'll find plenty of pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants, as well as a sandy beach for surf lessons, body boarding, fishing and clifftop walks. There's a café on site, and buses run on a regular basis from outside the site's main entrance through to nearby Polzeath and the wider area's main attractions such as Wadebridge and its top-notch seafood restaurants, gift shops, galleries and boutiques, Padsow's seven sandy beaches, the 18th century fisherman cottages and spectacular coastal walks at Port Isaac, Tintagel's famed castle and more. Amenities include a large modern washroom block with toilets, shower cubicles, hairdryers and shaving points, and an accessible toilet and wet room. The laundry room has four large washing machines and tumble dryers and a large washing-up area. Dogs are allowed all year round.
