Lovely walk down towards readymoney

  • Wild camping on the edge of Fowey, 15 minutes' walk from the centre
  • Eden Project and St Austell within 20 minutes' drive
  • Woodland walk down to Readymoney beach; bus stop outside the site
Got your heart set on Fowey as a place to stay? It’s an excellent choice – this cute little town is a real highlight of Cornwall, with a real sense of heritage as well as some gorgeous sea views. Keeping things very simple for a stay here is Lambs Barn Camping Ground, a wild camping site in a wooded valley on the edge of town, about a kilometre from the village centre. From here you'll also be able to walk along a footpath through the woods down to Readymoney beach, a sheltered sandy cove that’s fabulous for a dip in the sea. Longer walks might take you out onto the South West Coast Path, which runs along the entirety of Cornwall’s coastline, and there’s a bus stop just outside the site for longer jaunts around the county. This site is billed as having wild camping – and that’s almost true, as you’ll be settling down in nature-filled grass meadows for a real sense of countryside calm. There are, however, a few conveniences to make your stay a little more comfortable, including a water supply, gas-powered showers and portable toilets. Laundry facilities are close by if you need them. Down in Fowey you should find plenty to entertain yourselves, including watersports centres (with kayak and paddleboard hire) and riverside walks, plus shops, pubs and places to eat. There’s also a ferry service across the bay to Mevagissey (a route that’s well known for dolphin-spotting opportunities).

What customers say

Great spot, walk to Fowey & beach. Owners are legends, loads of space in the big field, super chill vibes. Outdoor shower's a winner, even if basic. Good value, but toilets get mixed reviews – some say grubby. Bit sloped in parts.

Liked The location is fantastic with views of the sea, a short walk into Fowey wich is a lovely place. The new toilet and shower block is a work in progress but ideal.

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked How close it was to walk to the beach down a lovely path and the coastal walks

Disliked Only a few even plots and very uneven ground. Also clear place to put garbage

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Lisa
Sorry to hear that the vibe here at Lambs Barn was not up to your expectations. We are a pop up campsite, ( after 60 days the grass fields revert to producing food for our dairy cows) we do not have a cafe or shop on site and so rightly we do not accept your rubbish, which is clearly stated in our details on pitch up! We do have bins for personal hygenic waste which you will find in our toilets. We love our small piece of heaven in Fowey, we love being able to share it, it would be a shame to keep it to ones self.

Best wishes

John

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked The field is great, near town if you don’t mind a hill walk home.
Very reasonable price.
Shower very basic but hot!

Disliked Toilets were a really filthy, not sure how often the my are cleaned or emptied but unsanitary beyond anything festival loo I’ve used.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Angie
Thank you for a great personal review, I'm a little puzzeld by your loo remark though, both toilets are spotless at all times and I can only think that you used a portaloo by mistake that was closed awaiting collection on that Tuesday!! Yes Fowey has a hill to climb up out of but when you use the footpath ( St Catherines Parade) beside the campsite as suggested it is a flat easy walk, there is also a hoppa bus from the town which stops right outside the campsite. Hopefully we will see you next year 😁

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked I spent my 40th birthday here with my mum, stepdad, my friend and her almost 3-year-old, and we were all really happy with the site. We had three campers between us. The short walk (20/25 minutes max) to the beach and into Fowey was a highlight - we loved that we could do everything on foot without needing to take a van.

The showers were warm every day and the sink was great for washing up. There’s both a portaloo and, more recently, regular toilets have been added through the gate in the large wooden-style building.

It’s a simple, no-frills site, but more than satisfying - we couldn’t have asked for better for a relaxed stay.

Disliked There was nothing we disliked about this site. Bring chocks and you will be fine!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Zoe

Its great to hear such a glowing review and that you and your family had a great birthday celebration with us here in Fowey. We pride ourselves on being a friendly, family pop up campsite with a few basic home comforts!

Thank you for the 'heads up' on the shower 😁.

Best wishes

John

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked Location to town, no structures spaces allowing you to choose, camping in a maize field, access to toilet block and chemical waste. Friendly owner. Vibe from other guests. It’s quite back to nature. Booked one night initially and then added several extra.

Disliked Water tap for filling Motorhome was wider than a home tap so couldn’t fit hoselok adapter. Had to use tape to connect hose to tap each time.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Friendly and welcoming. Site clean and well cared for. Plenty of space.
New toilet block is definitely an improvement on the portaloo. Easy walk into the village. Loads going on in Regatta week and fun for all the family. New Coop up the hill is a benefit too as we came without a car.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Yes, the Fowey Regatta is a very busy time for us all here in Fowey, so much to see and also so much to do for all of the family, young and old.
We are doing something right when we hear how much you enjoyed your time here in Fowey.
The Coop is also a new addition this summer, so easy now, a 5 minute walk up the road for your supplies.

Best wishes

John
