  • Indoor pool, kids' club, amusements centre and adventure playground
  • Family restaurant, entertainment venue and bar with Sky TV
Feeling a bit snarly? Nerves getting all gnarly? You could do with a trip to Marlie. Laidback Marlie Holiday Park is in a scenic rural setting close to the beaches of New Romney and Dymchurch, on the Kent coast. With a heated indoor swimming pool and plenty more stuff to keep the kids entertained, it could be just what the doctor ordered to restore your sense of calm… Younger guests can flit between the sessions in the Loopy kids' club, the indoor pool, amusements centre and adventure playground, plus of course all the general running about in the fresh air (arm them with a few carrots and send them off to make friends with the resident rabbits). If you want a break from the cooking, the park has a decent family restaurant; there’s also a bar with Sky TV, and an adjacent entertainment venue with evening entertainment. You can relax in the knowledge that all the basics are covered too: smartly refurbished showers and toilets; a shop (as well a big supermarket just minutes up the road); a launderette; and free wifi in the clubhouse. There, you’re feeling better already, aren’t you?

What customers say

Pods get a thumbs up for cleanliness & value. Staff are ace. Kids love the pool & games. Showers can be hit 'n' miss, Wi-Fi's pricey, and parking tricky in the wet.

Camping pod

Liked Did like all before, untill last visit.

Disliked What was meant to be a short family break turned into a disaster. We — two adults and two children — stayed at Marlie Holiday Park on the 4th of July and were placed in Pod 10, which turned out to be severely infested with bed bugs.

On the first night, we noticed some movement in the bed but didn’t think much of it — it was late, and we were exhausted after travelling. The shock came the next morning when we found dead bugs and a large number of blood spots on the sheets. We reported it straight away and were moved to another pod the same day.

We sent photos of the infestation to the local manager, who simply acknowledged receiving them and seemed more focused on pointing out that we’d been moved — almost proudly — rather than showing any concern. There was no apology, no follow-up, and no sign that the issue was taken seriously. It was only after several chase-up emails and escalating the matter to Head Office that we finally received any proper response.

At the time of the move, there were no obvious bite marks, but within a few days, all four of us began developing painful, itchy bites. What we didn’t realise is that bed bug bites don’t appear immediately — they started showing up 3–4 days later, continued for nearly two weeks, and took just as long to fade. The discomfort was ongoing and genuinely unpleasant.

Eventually, the General Manager contacted us — but the only offer was a refund for the accommodation, with no recognition of everything we had to deal with: a GP visit, antibiotics, out-of-pocket medical costs, and a day of unpaid leave.

To make matters worse, Pod 10 was re-let the same day we checked out, raising serious concerns about hygiene standards and guest safety.

One of the most worrying parts of this whole experience is the very real risk of bringing bed bugs home, which could have turned a bad holiday into a months-long nightmare. Thankfully, we managed to avoid that — but I honestly don’t even want to imagine what it would have meant for our home, our children, and our lives if that had happened.

This wasn’t just an unfortunate incident — it was a clear failure in health, hygiene, and basic customer care. The lack of accountability from local management and the bare-minimum response after escalation made an already stressful experience even worse for our whole family.

Camping pod

Liked Pods are great and surroundings are nice as a bit out of the way

Disliked 24 pods with only 3 showers per sex! Each pods sleeps 4 people. Not enough facilities for people however they are hot.
Also the club house is really not great for families. Security guards, very expensive drinks and food plus the children's entertainment was terrible!

Camping pod

Liked Stayed in the pods, which were lovely and clean. The swimming pool was clean and easy to book at reception and the club house food was delicious and fast to come out, even when it was busy. The entertainment was good, although we didn't take part with a lot of it. The site was good for young children, mine aged 6 to 11. They lived the arcade, but it was expensive.

Disliked The toilet and shower block near the pods was poor. It was dated, there was hot water in only one shower and it was often grubby. The walkway to the pods was extremely muddy, we spent the entire 4 days covered in mud no matter how we tried to avoid it, and it really does ruin the experience. Also no where to off load muddy shoes and no mop in the pod so we had to battle it in there too. I'm sure in a caravan this place is good, as they have concrete pathways, but u wouldn't recommend a pod unless you go in drier months.

Camping pod

Liked The site is nicely located, pretty close to the beach. Pod was clean and comfortable.

Disliked There was not enough free space for kids to play around pods. It looks very neat and possibly more for couples. Toilets - no stairs only ramp as an only access. I like the location but because not much space close to the pods I'm not sure I will be back.

Local attractions

Buckets and spades are go, with a range of good beaches on the doorstep; try Littlestone and Dymchurch, or Camber Sands a little further away. You’ll spot the steam engines of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway puffing past; don’t miss a trip on this historic miniature railway, one of the best ways to explore the area. Other sporting pursuits on offer include excellent fishing at the Wylands Angling Centre, where there are 10 lakes to choose from; and a wide range of watersports, both on the nearby beaches and at a specially designed lake just inland (sand yachting, wakeboarding, jetskiing and more). Whatever your ages and stages, there’s no shortage of inspiration for a family outing. A 20-minute drive up the road is the fab Port Lympne Reserve, where you can bump along through herds of African wildlife in a safari truck and get up close to the gorillas in the Palace of the Apes; you’ll also see rhinos, elephants, lions, tigers and other ferocious beasts. Alternatively, go for a day out in Dover, to explore the White Cliffs and historic Dover Castle; a sedate saunter around spectacular Leeds Castle, potentially offset with an adrenaline-boosting high ropes adventure at the neighbouring Go Ape centre; a tastebud-tickling trip to the Biddenden Vineyard and Cider Works; a walk down memory lane at Yesterday’s World, or a foray to the Hop Farm near Maidstone.
