  • Motorhome pitches on a small Cumbria site five minutes from the M6
  • Hadrian's Wall and Lake District within half an hour's drive
  • Part of a riverside estate with day tickets for salmon/trout fishing
You’ll only need to drive for about five minutes to reach Warwick Hall once you’ve left the M6 – but you’ll feel a world away from all that traffic when you’re settled into this small Cumbria site. The hardstanding motorhome pitches here are within the grounds of Warwick Hall’s estate on the banks of the River Eden – and there’s just a few of them, so it’s all nicely peaceful and spacious. Being right by the river has some great advantages, of course – including the ability to head out for waterside walks (one of which leads to the village pub, handily enough…) There’s access to the river for fishing, too, with daily tickets available to buy on site for salmon or trout fishing in the estate’s well-respected waters. If that’s not your thing, you’re welcome to have a game of tennis on the estate’s court instead or take your dog for a walk (as long as they’re kept on a lead to avoid problems with grazing sheep). Of course, you’re likely to want to be getting out and about while you’re staying here – especially with things like Hadrian’s Wall, the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the northern stretch of the Lake District within easy striking distance. Carlisle is about 10 minutes’ drive away for various entertainments and amenities like supermarkets. Pitches here are simple in style, with no electric connections or other services provided. There’s access to a toilet block and washing-up area though, along with a communal firepit area with log seating.

Unpowered grass and gravel motorhome site

Liked It's a tiny site, so very peaceful & quiet, in a lovely setting.

Disliked The washing up facilities....... Unusable & filthy! We didn't look at the loos, so can't comment on their cleanliness.

Good stopover to/from Scotland.

Unpowered grass and gravel motorhome site

Liked Very informal - just pitch up and select your bay. A well kept area- tranquil, beautiful and very relaxed. Lovely area to walk through the park and down by the river. If you are lucky like we were you might see deer grazing, fish jumping and a succession of mother ducks herding and leading their ducklings out of the river. The simple amenities adds to the experience - enjoy.

Disliked Nothing. The description on the internet site is accurate in every way. .

Unpowered grass and gravel motorhome site

Liked The beautiful surroundings, great riverside walk. Myself and my husband in our motorhome and my sister and partner in their motorhome were the only other booking on the night we stayed so we had the site to ourselves. The weather was perfect. Would definitely stay here again

Liked Quiet simple and with nice facilities

Disliked I saw another review that said about the lack of instructions, otherwise I would have felt uneasy about just picking a spot and sorting myself out

Local attractions

If you’re interested in exploring some of the area’s history, Hadrian’s Wall is an obvious place to start, with several parts easily accessed from Warwick Hall. Hare Hill and Banks East Turret (20 minutes’ drive) are the closest sections, and you can learn more by continuing on to the Roman Army Museum (20 minutes) and the museum at Vindolanda (half an hour). Something a bit more recent? There’s a great collection of heritage planes at Solway Aviation Museum (10 minutes) and more shiny vehicles at the Vintage Motorbike Museum in Scaleby (15 minutes). Meanwhile, a steam-powered ride on the South Tynedale Railway (40 minutes) is a lovely way to see some of the scenery of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Heading down into the Lake District National Park, you’ll be able to catch some of the top attractions in the northern part of the park easily enough – perhaps hiring a boat or watersports kit from Pooley Bridge (half an hour), visiting Aira Force Waterfall (40 minutes) or clambering up Skiddaw (50 minutes).
