  • Wooded eco-site for guests aged 12+ in the Cheshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive to the Sandstone Trail, and 45 minutes to Chester
  • Cabins with kitchenettes, plus three fishing ponds on site
Surrounded by farmland on one side and Llangollen Canal to the other, Wild Escapes is a woodland eco-site for guests aged 12+ surrounded by mature trees and overlooking three wildlife ponds. Each pond is well stocked with fish, so guests are welcome to bring a rod (catch and return only). Set in the village of Wrenbury on the Cheshire-Shropshire border, the space makes a peaceful retreat for guests looking to get back to basics for the weekend. Accommodation is in nifty cabins, dotted over the two-acre woodland – with a variety of oaks and weeping willows – so privacy is pretty much guaranteed. Each cabin has private basic cooking facilities and access to a shower. The site has both flushing and composting toilets, and the only power is for the lighting systems – bring your phones fully charged. It’s also only suitable for guests aged 12 and over, due to the ponds not being fenced off. Nantwich (10 minutes’ drive) is the nearest town, with more pubs than you could possibly visit over a weekend. It also has numerous places to eat – including Italian, Thai and American cuisine – (no need to be a slave in the kitchen then) as well as more than 100 listed buildings to check out.

Kingfisher cabin

Liked: Lovely escape in a fabulous setting to get away from our hectic lives. The cabin was perfect with everything you needed. Right on the canal with plenty of walks and not far from the village amenities. Our son caught a couple of perch whilst fishing. The bed was so comfy! We loved our stay. Thank you

Disliked: Nothing really apart from maybe the cost for 1 night which was expensive. We would stay more often if a bit less.

Kingfisher cabin

Liked: Travelling with my best friend. Was a lovely break from the big city. x2 other cabins on the property who could fish at the lake in front of us - everyone was quiet and well respected so it didn't bother us at all. Amendments were great - clean and well kept. There were signs up with instructions if needed. Over all we will be back for anther break as we really enjoyed it.

Disliked: Nothing to add to the dislikes. It was as advertised + more. The feeling you get when you there exceeds expectation.

The Willow 2 bedroom cabin

Liked: The cabinet was beautiful wasn’t a lot of fish as my partner is a fisherman Didn’t catch one single fish as it was described online Everything was inside the cabin that was perfect. Personally it was rather expensive just for one night? Also it was a bit of a long walk to bring all our stuff to the cabin that was a bit of a downfall but the view from the cabin to the pond with beautiful.

From the manager: Hi Elisha, I'm very sorry that you didn't completely enjoy your stay with us in the Willow cabin, and I just wanted to take this opportunity to respond to your concerns for both yourself, and future guests. The lakes were heavily stocked with a variety of carp species approximately 10 years ago by ourselves. This includes grass, crucian, common and mirror carp. We've had a positive response from guests fishing the lakes this year on the whole. I'm aware that the day that you stayed with us was incredibly hot, this may have had an impact on the amount of fish your partner was able to catch. I can appreciate that there is a bit of a walk from the car park to your cabin. Ideally we would like guests to be able to park next to the cabins but due to insurance purposes this isn't something we can allow. The walk is approximately 150 - 200m to the Willow cabin, and we've recently added a trolley near at the entrance of the site to help carry bags. I will make this more clear to guests in the future so thank you for raising this. With regards to our pricing, as the booking was for one night at the weekend, this will have fallen under our premium rate. I hope I have been able to address your concerns and please feel free to get in touch if you have any other comments. All the best, George

The Willow 2 bedroom cabin

Liked: Wow wow wow, we had the most fabulous stay at the largest 5-bed cabin on this site. The area is so beautiful, with the cabin set just across from 3 ponds- and we even saw a mother duck and her babies! Just be wary that the other 2 cabins on the site are a few metres away but it still feels very private! Fire pit/firewood and electric bbq provided, as well as camping chairs, cool box, gas heater, washing up items and cutlery/plates. We brought our own frying pan and would recommend bringing milk if you’re not a fan of the milk sachets they provide! Drinking water from the tap available so no need to bring lots of bottled water. Would 1000% stay again, and would even come with larger group of family and book all 3 cabins for another weekend away in nature.
