  • Quiet countryside campsite based on a working arable farm
  • Prudhoe 10 minutes' drive; Hexham 20 minutes
  • One-acre dog exercise field; close to many public footpaths
Bowler’s Hill Campsite is a simple campsite based on a working arable farm in a scenic Northumberland location. This family-friendly site also welcomes four-legged friends, and dogs have their very own one-acre exercise field where they can run up and down to their heart's content. This site has spacious plots for tents in a flat and open field, with no restrictions on how big your pitch can be. The location of Bowler’s Hill Campsite is a handy one too, as the site is about 10 minutes from Prudoe by car and 20 minutes from Hexham; you can also reach highlights like the Northumberland coast (an hour) and Newcastle (30 minutes) and be back in time to start a barbecue for dinner. If you don't fancy cooking after a long day of exploring, you can take advantage of the country pub, tea rooms and small shops within the local area (the pub, for example, is under a mile from base). If you're looking for a holiday without too much driving, this could be a good bet, as Bowler’s Hill Campsite is within about two miles of two stations and can also be reached by bus.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we are glad you are happy with your stay. Unfortunately we currently don't have any drinking water available on site, as advertised prior to and on confirmation of booking. This is something we hope to be able to provide in the future and we are always happy to provide drinking water for any guests who would like it.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: The campsite is of unprecedented beauty in terms of peace and nature. Besides the fox and the badger, just about everything you could expect in terms of flora and fauna has made an appearance. Spectacular sunset and changes in weather types. The toilet and shower are simple but were kept clean regularly. The manager was very hospitable and friendly. We had a very nice time and will definitely come back if possible.

Disliked: There is a water tap, but not suitable for drinking water. Keep in mind. In Prudou, the town further up the hill, the supermarkets sell 5 liters of drinking water very cheaply. Problem solved.

Liked: Large field with plenty of space. Good views in several directions. Flexible arrival and departure policy - arrive and depart anytime.

Disliked: Rough ground that quickly turned muddy after rain. Only two portaloos in a very large field. We saw several people drive to them. Nowhere to wash hands after using the loos. No drinking water available.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we are happy you enjoyed the space and views we have to offer. We apologise that you found the ground was rough and muddy - this was a purely a result of the bad weather we have experienced this year and traffic travelling on it. Fortunately we have a large site that allows us to spread pitches out and give the ground time to recover and we have managed to avoid the whole site becoming a bog. We do increase the amount of portaloos depending on the number of visitors. We send out a site map in advance of arrival in order to show people where the facilities are located and to allow people to choose where they would like to be. We are aware that several people chose to drive to the portaloos at the time of your stay purely due to the wet weather conditions and to avoid getting wet! We have hand sanitiser in all portaloos and a sink with warm water is available for handwashing within the shower unit, if required. Unfortunately we don't currently have drinking water available on site, but this is clearly stated prior to and on confirmation of booking. We are also happy to provide fresh drinking water for anyone who requires it.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Campsite owner was very nice and friendly very spacious grass field deep in the countryside. Campsite has a very easy going attitude you can pitch anywhere you want which i liked alot. Basic campsite but all in all very good.

Disliked: Took me a while to find the campsite because the postcode in the GPS takes you to the wrong spot and you cant see the campsite from the gps spot, the campsite is actually a fair bit away i was about to give up but then i managed to find it. So it was all good then.

Liked: Location was great. Views was amazing.

Disliked: Field was too boggy. Only stayed one night instead of 2. Showers only open in evening.

From the manager: Sorry to hear your stay wasn't as you expected. Unfortunately we have had significantly higher rainfall than usual in the last few weeks meaning the field was muddier than usual but unfortunately this was beyond our control. Our showers were on reduced opening times during your stay in order to conserve energy when visitor numbers are low. They are open longer as demand dictates, however if you had contacted us we would have been happy to open them as required. We are glad you enjoyed our location and views and hope to welcome you back again soon.

Liked: Loved everything about this site, it was exactly what we wanted, real back to basics. Dog exercise area is great, site is super clean and plenty of info provided about the local area. We also had so much space it was great! This was our last adventure with our fur baby, Fifi, before she was sadly put to sleep. I'm so glad we picked here, it will also hold special memories for us and we'll definitely be back.
