General
- Pre-pitched rental tent in peaceful Yorkshire woodlands
- Ripon 20 minutes' drive; 25 minutes from York and Harrogate
- Hammock, firepit, USB phone charging and private toilet tent
Travel light as you go gallivanting around North Yorkshire with this pre-pitched tent in a peaceful woodland setting. Located in the forested part of a family-owned farm, Croisdale Carr is a tiny site for private hire where your party will have both the accommodation and the woods entirely to yourselves.
The tent is spacious enough to host up to four and has three individual sleeping compartments for added privacy. For mood lighting, fairy lights are festooned around the pitch, while other facilities like a hammock, a firepit and a USB phone-charging point are included too. There's also a well-maintained toilet tent a short distance away (which, like the rest of the site, you won't have to share with any other guests).
This six-acre woodland sanctuary is about half a mile from the village centre of Marton cum Grafton, a quiet spot with handy amenities like a post office, local shop and a pub with a beer garden. A little further away, it's a short drive to some of Yorkshire's top tourist destinations like Ripon (20 minutes' drive), York (25 minutes) and the spa town of Harrogate (25 minutes), while getting to the edge of either the Yorkshire Dales or the Howardian Hills will take you just under half an hour.

Local attractions
Croisdale Carr is about five minutes' drive from the Devil's Arrows, a cluster of prehistoric monoliths from the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age period. After inspecting the stones up close, it's a short wander into the centre of Boroughbridge (five minutes), a small town where you can go for laidback strolls along the river Ure.
Follow the river west far enough and you'll come to Newby Hall and Gardens (15 minutes), a handsome country pile originally built by Sir Christopher Wren in the 1690s with landscaped gardens, a miniature railway and an adventure playground. For similarly lavish landscapes, you might like to follow up with a trip to the water gardens at Studley Royal (25 minutes) or a jaunt around the grounds of Beningbrough Hall (25 minutes), an Italian-inspired Georgian house overlooking the river Ouse.
There's heaps more to do if you head off to equally elegant Harrogate (25 minutes) – take a walking tour with a local guide to learn about the town's past as a spa resort, or take a spin round the Royal Pump Room Museum to get an idea of what it would have been like here in its heyday.
