Up for a dog walk along a bubbling beck straight from your pitch, or would you rather spend your days sightseeing in historic York (20 minutes by bus)? Whatever your holiday style, North Yorkshire’s Willow Campsite is bound to have a quiet corner in its tree-sheltered camping field that’s just right for you. Tucked away by two wildlife ponds – where you can spot ducks and occasional kingfishers flitting among bullrushes – tree-shaded Willow Campsite forms part of a larger, adults-only holiday park. Your needs are very well taken care of indeed; you can refuel in the wooden-beamed Willow Farm Café (open daily 9am–4pm; they do an excellent afternoon tea and there’s a souvenir shop right next door), or fire up a barbecue (raised off the grass please). If that doesn’t appeal, make a beeline for the local foodie pub (half an hour’s walk) instead. The site also has a bunch of handy practical facilities, from disabled access and wet rooms in the amenities block to a pot-washing sink and laundry room. Wifi reception can be a bit patchy around the camping area, but it’s strong in the café. This being North Yorkshire, there may be the odd rainy day – but never fear, there’s a cinema and bowling alley at Clifton Moor Retail Park (10 minutes’ drive), or you could console yourselves with an afternoon’s shopping at York Designer Outlet (20 minutes).

Adults-only spot's a ripper for peace, cleanliness, and easy bus trips to York. Ablutions are spotless. A fair few reckon the loo walk's a bit long from tents, and portaloo's could be better. Cafe's a winner. Suggest pitching spots are clearer, and more for tent campers.

Liked Quite on week days, nice local walks

Disliked Lack of facilities, one dirty porter potty, with door hanging off. No clear pitches and people putting up where they please meaning not enough room for anyone else. Large group parties on weekends. Fighting to reach power outlets due to poor set up and over crowding rounds plugs.

Liked This place is perfect if you love peace and quiet. What a great location. Clean tidy and had everything you need. I will be returning., just wish my stay was longer. So thank you.

Liked Camping site was very clean and well maintained.
Everything in walking distance with bus routes just outside the site if u want to travel into York.

Disliked Got one mosquito bite, no issues I expected more as we camped next to the pond.
The WiFi was a bit hot and miss as we were pitched far from the signal.

Liked Fantastic Adults Only site. Ablutions were spotlessly clean. Nice quiet location and a half hour ish walk to the Black Horse at Wiggington. I spent 5 nights there, but could have stayed longer. I'll definitely go back.

Liked Basic site.
Regular bus to York (hourly but last bus is 19.17)
Fantastic cafe on site but a separate business. Great food and reasonably priced

Disliked Toilets too far from the non electric pitch.
Pond near camping ground is overgrown.

Liked The site itself was really relaxing and having the cafe at the top end was great. Bus stop at the top of the drive into York was really useful too

Disliked The layout of the site was a bit hard to understand from the checking in email. I think having a picture of the site would have helped more with where to pitch etc. The portaloo by the pitches wasn’t cleaned the whole time we were there which was a bit disappointing

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Quiet site with easy access to York by bicycle - rough grass track across fields to ring road then cycle ways after crossing. Pitches aren’t defined which is quite nice. Showers very good though could get busy in the mornings. Lots of wildlife with moorhens, ducks, robins and even spotted a number of wild deer.

Liked Really nice place to be, lovely and quiet and an absolute sun trap! Toilets are always kept clean and respected by everybody during my stay however they are a little walk away from the camping area.

Keen historians might start their exploration of York (20 minutes by bus/15 minutes by car) at the landmark Minster, where free guided tours take in the glittering stained-glass Rose Window as well as Roman and Anglo-Saxon artefacts in the Undercroft Museum. Continue your immersion in culture with an amble around the Roman/medieval city walls, stop into the Castle Museum to see recreations of Victorian streets and book evening events at the Barbican theatre. There’s more rich heritage to be admired at gorgeous Castle Howard (half an hour’s drive), with sumptuous apartments stuffed full of great art from the likes of Reynolds and Gainsborough. National Trust-owned Beningbrough Hall (15 minutes) is a close contender in the arts stakes, with a collection of paintings squirrelled away from London’s National Gallery. Anyone with an interest in wildlife can find plenty to see and do: there are raptor flying displays at York Bird of Prey Centre (15 minutes), while a wander in the Howardian Hills National Landscape (20 minutes) might bring you sightings of deer and hares in woodland and meadows. If your interest veers towards more powerful beasts, there’s flat racing at York (also 20 minutes) and a jumps course at Wetherby (half an hour).
