  • Adults-only site in Osbaldwick, with easy access to York and the A64
  • Castle Howard and North York Moors National Park half an hour's drive
  • Dog-friendly pitches 15 minutes' walk from a York park & ride bus
Fancy visiting York but not so keen on staying in the crowded city centre? There’s a very good solution to this at Holly Tree Nook, a couple of miles east of the city in Osbaldwick. This is a spot that’s both conveniently located and nicely peaceful – with an adults-only setup to help keep the place quiet and laidback. Getting here should be nice and easy, with nearby connections from the A64 – and getting out again is equally straightforward, as the city’s park & ride service is about 15 minutes’ walk away (a very handy thing for saving you the hassle of city-centre parking). That means it’s very simple to get out to explore York’s many attractions (and you may need a couple of trips at least, given how much there is to do…). It’s not all about city days though – here you’ll also be well placed for walks in the Yorkshire Wolds and North York Moors National Park or outings to various gardens, stately homes, museums and vineyards dotted around the countryside. Fill your days however you wish – you’ll be coming back to spacious pitches that have access to a modern amenities building that’s got not just toilets and showers but also a lovely sauna where you can really unwind. A pub, café and small supermarket are about half a mile away to help keep you fed and watered, and a local brewery taproom five minutes’ walk away opens up at the weekends.

What customers say

Sparkling clean, adults-only park with modern facilities & spacious pitches. Handy for York transport. Friendly owners, though shower timers can be a bit quick. Benches in showers would be a bonus.

Local attractions

To York first presumably? Having the park and ride so close by is a very useful thing, making it easy to get to the city centre for days of visiting the minster, Jorvik Viking Centre and National Railway Museum, sampling sweet treats at York’s Chocolate Story and wandering the city walls. You may also like to stroll down The Shambles, take a boat trip along the Ouse, join a ghost walk or try a traditional afternoon tea at Bettys café. For a bit more of the area’s heritage, visit places like the Murton Park museum (five minutes’ drive), Castle Howard (half an hour) and National Trust - Beningbrough Hall, Gallery and Gardens (half an hour). Yorkshire Air Museum and Allied Air Forces Memorial (10 minutes) explores another aspect of history. Where else? Perhaps a day at York Racecourse (20 minutes), a stroll around Burnby Hall Gardens (20 minutes) or some watersports and a bounce across the aqua park at Allerthorpe Lakeland Park (20 minutes). There are also tours and lovely things to eat at Yorkshire Heart Vineyard, Brewery and Wine House Cafe (half an hour).
