  • Adults-only site 10 minutes’ drive from Richmond in North Yorkshire
  • Catterick Racecourse five minutes’ drive; Easby Abbey 40 minutes’ walk
  • Dog-friendly pitches; Brompton on Swale pub and shop 10 minutes’ walk
For a quiet adults-only North Yorkshire stay far removed from the hurly burly of everyday life, Millfields Caravan and Camping is a tiny site tucked away in Brompton on Swale, a historic village mentioned in the Domesday Book. Peaceful it certainly is, yet there’s masses to do and see hereabouts. The lively market town of Richmond is 10 minutes’ drive away, with its photogenic Georgian architecture, museums, a castle and lots of entertainment options from cosy inns to chic restaurants. It’s also gateway to adventures in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and any keen racing fans among you have the choice of nine major racecourses: York is an hour’s drive, Wetherby 40 minutes, and Catterick a doddle to get to, being a mere five minutes away. And back on site, the manicured pitches look out over lush countryside (great for walking any dogs you've brought along), with simple facilities including showers and washing-up areas. If you choose to conjure up alfresco feasts on the barbecue, pick up essentials in the handy local shop, or you can always head to the village pub for a pint and a pie (both 10 minutes’ walk).

A peaceful, adults-only spot near Richmond. Guests loved the spacious, level pitches & easy check-in. Some noted basic loos & showers, with a new block coming. 6-amp hook-up might be low for some. Great pubs & walks nearby.

Liked Beautiful peaceful site within easy reach of A1. Well maintained site in beautiful countryside.
Very clean facilities. Water pressure good and plenty of hot water.
Ideal dog walking area, walks from site with footpaths on main road.
Had the added bonus of having the site to ourselves on the second night.
Definitely planning to return.

Liked Great size level pitches with plenty of green space for dogs. I received a message before arrival and name was on the board to allocate pitch number, we are fine with no reception, we actually like to just come and park up. Shower block is in need of an update but saying that the shower was great, lots of room for changing, lovely hot water and a proper turn on shower, no pushing buttons for more water. It was lovely and peaceful at night, we were going to walk to the abbey but arrived too late so walked to the pub instead which is very close.

Liked Quiet location. Basic facilities, but very adequate.
Imagine it would be glorious in summer months.

Disliked Pitches a little narrow, so this time of yea (Oct), stepping out onto grass wasn't ideal.

Liked Quiet, nearly missed signs and entrance.
Nice hot shower.

Disliked Impersonal no human contact at all not even my name on the board .

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us, unfortunately you booked after I had left for the day so your name was not on the board but you should have received a text from me with your pitch number on, we also do state on pitchup that we don't have a reception. There is a second toilet/shower block on the other side of the site and our new shower block will be ready for next season.

Powered concrete and grass site

Liked Nice walk into Richmond
Spacious pitches
East access from A1
Adults only
Easy walk to a shop and pub

Disliked The Facilities - very poor standard of cleaning, lots of spiders webs & spiders everywhere, washing up area dirty and dark, toilets are in what looks like a shipping container, again lots of spiders and low level of cleanliness, also freezing cold. Hot water though. Ripped flags hanging from trees. The other toilet block had a toilet and shower which smelt horrific!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us. I can only apologize for our very industrious spiders but I do contest the "very poor standard of cleaning" as stacey and the girls do a great job! I would suggest you do a bit more research in future regarding where you want to stay as all our facilities are shown in the photos on pitchup.

Local attractions

Stroll directly from your pitch to the spectacular hilltop ruins of 12th-century Easby Abbey (40 minutes’ walk), or have a ramble along the River Swale to Richmond Castle and the pebble beach at Richmond Falls (both roughly an hour). And of course, there are hikes and cycle rides for all levels of ability in the Yorkshire Dales National Park (15 minutes’ drive). Head to Foxglove Covert Local Nature Reserve (20 minutes) for the chance to spy birds of prey and kingfishers in the moorland, meadow and wetland habitats, or if stately houses are on your agenda, combine exploring formal gardens and a lakeside park at Jacobean-era Kiplin Hall (10 minutes) with a tour of the mansion’s richly decorated rooms. The likelihood is you’ll adore fussing over the camels, llamas and ostriches at Mainsgill Farm Shop (15 minutes), where you can also tuck into a tasty cream tea. Should the weather turn against you, book tickets for blockbuster films at The Station or tour Richmond’s restored Georgian Theatre Royal (both 10 minutes), still with its original stage and seating.
