  • Family-run site a short walk from the village of Cherry Burton
  • In the Yorkshire Nature Triangle, three miles from Beverley
  • Eco-friendly site with modern facilities and wildlife pond
It’s not easy to choose between the buzz of a city break, splendid countryside views and seaside shenanigans… and why should you have to? Settle instead for a sweet spot that's got access to it all, at Cherry Burton Leisure Park. Set across six acres, this family-run East Yorkshire site is handily located for visiting Hull (a 20-minute drive) and the east coast beaches at Hornsea (25 minutes) and Bridlington (35 minutes). Cherry Burton village, a few minutes’ walk from the site, ticks off plenty of essentials – including a kids' park, playing fields, a small supermarket and a pub – and the surrounding villages host a selection of food and drink places, ranging from traditional to Michelin-starred (if you’re feeling fancy). For some fresh air, get yourself on one of the local walking and cycling routes (including the Yorkshire Wolds Way and Hudson Way) and explore the area at your own pace. You don’t need to be a pro, but Cherry Burton has been on the route of the Tour De Yorkshire several times, so you know you’re in for a good ride if that’s your thing. If you’re not a fan of the whole back-to basics-approach, worry not, for the facilities at this place (including accessible showers and toilets) are modern ones… and eco-friendly too, with LED lighting and solar panels for minimal environmental impact. Keep an eye out for wild critters as you wander – they're fans of this place (and no wonder, given that they're well supplied with bird and bat boxes, feeding tables, hedgehog tunnels, bee hotels and a wildlife pond).

Unpowered grass site

Liked A mainly a well maintained campsite in close proximity to the beautiful town of Beverley, which is a town well worth visiting. Nice club house and very reasonable prices too . We quite enjoyed the tribute act as entertainment on Friday night, although we usually like to just sit in a peaceful location, but a good change for us. This place really has great potential. We were very happy to have a large pitch which got the sun, as requested! Staff were nice here too.

Disliked Just felt it needed finishing .We looked out on to a bit of land with some builders rubble. Sure it will be great when finished. Also a bit close to rather busy roads and one you had to cross to get to the nearby village, The traffic did not disturb us at night though. We didn't bother crossing the main road to the village. Happy to use the club with its lovely terrace. Neighbours were rather loud, something we have never experienced as always use quiet and peaceful sites that check on the noise. Someone's dog peed on our tent and windbreak on two occasions!! but this isn't the site's fault ! I do think there is a need for some toilets on their own, as you can sometimes queue a little as the loos are in the shower rooms.

Powered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked Great site, toilet block was spotless and nicer than some hotels! Lovely little site with evening entertainment and well set out.

Disliked Toilets separate to the showers. Only 5 rooms (with shower and toilet in each) so sometimes a bit of a que and if you only need the toilet you were waiting longer as toilets not separate.

Powered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked The site was lovely, the toilets and showers were very clean and modern 5*. There was 5 or 6 cubicles including one disabled, with a toilet/shower/sink/hand dryer in each. We went to the on site club house which was located in a big marquee, drink and food prices were very reasonable, they also had a singer on one of the nights. We couldn’t fault our stay and will be returning.

Local attractions

The historic market town of Beverley is three miles away – feast your eyes on the impressive Beverley Minster, a real gothic masterpiece, or wander to North Bar, a 15th-century brick-built defensive gate. When history class is dismissed, it’s over to the Westwood, a big open space ideal for picnics and post-lunch strolls. Beverley's also known for its racecourse, so a day of watching the gee-gees is an option; non-horsey types might prefer to hit the shops at the Flemingate complex, where there’s also a choice of eats, a cinema and an inflatable theme park. The site is within the Yorkshire Nature Triangle, so wildlife experiences are a must. Wander around Tophill Low Nature Reserve (a 20-minute drive) to spot otters, dragonflies and birds of all shapes and sizes, or visit North Cave Wetlands (25 minutes) – its six lakes and numerous bird hides make it a popular place for twitchers. If that’s up your street, you might want to stop off at Bempton Cliffs reserve (45 minutes), where around half a million seabirds gather between March and October.
