  • Peaceful site on a working farm 10 minutes' drive from Halesworth
  • A 10-minute drive to Dunwich beach; 15 minutes to Southwold
  • Spacious pitches with firepit provided and firewood for sale
Relaxed Suffolk stays on spacious pitches are what’s on offer at Brights Farm Camping, part of a traditional family-run working farm in a rural spot 10 minutes’ drive from Halesworth and the Suffolk coastline. Expect lots of quiet, nice sunsets, dark skies and miles of wildflower walks nearby. This is a working livestock grassland farm that spends most of its time producing silage and hay to feed the calves born in early spring – and fittingly you’ll likely spot a few cows around the place, along with a small flock of chickens. Those grasses are also popular with wildlife so have a look around to see what sort of butterflies and other beasties you can spot around the field (and you might also spot the three-carriage coastal train as it passes by twice an hour… give it a wave as it goes). Human guests are well catered for here too: pitches are generously sized, and each one is provided with a firepit (plus barbecue grill). Firewood can be bought on site, or you can bring your own charcoal along if you prefer. There are piped mains water points close to each pitch, and it’s a short stroll to the shared toilet and hot shower facilities. Halesworth’s the place to pick up foodie bits for your grill – particularly if you stop by on a Wednesday when the market’s running. Closer to home, there’s a village shop a mile away in Bramfield, along with a gastropub for those who don’t fancy doing the cooking. A top-notch bakery is a couple of minutes’ drive away too for breakfast goodies and picnic supplies.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The space, fire pit, toilet and shower facilities were all great. Loved the extra water taps running along the site. Shauna is lovely and helpful, we appreciated not having to rush on the last morning and the local food (and coffee) recommendations. Initial concerns about the trains, but they were barely noticeable as the site is further from them than you expect. Loads of logs for the price, one bucket did us for two nights. Definitely on our list to return to!

Disliked: A second toilet could be useful for busy periods but no dislikes!

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Well-spaced level pitches, peaceful rural setting, the sense of "going-back-to-basics" with well-chosen inobtrusive facilities: a compost toilet, a fantastic shower, washing bowls, ample water standpipes. The site owner was very helpful and kept an eye out for the campers.

Liked: Everything! This is a truly lovely site, and Shauna is a great host. The pitches are mown areas cut into meadow grass into the fields. One eco loo and shower (good temperature and pressure - and view!), both really clean, spacious, well made with some impressively innovative and artistic touches. We were in the section beyond the loo, and it was full on our 2nd and 3rd nights, with no problems with numbers using the loo and shower (from pictures I think there might be a separate one in the other section for when full but we didn't look). Highly recommended!

Liked: What a fantastic find. We absolutely loved our stay here and it was a real escape . Such a peaceful place that it was easy to relax. The pitches are a generous size ( level) with a lot of long meadow grass in between each pitch which is at least 8 metres from the next one. At night the stars were incredible and we enjoyed listening to the different owl calls. And watching the bats. The fire pit is a welcome touch and we bought a large tub of logs for £10, which lasted us 4 nights. We loved the composting toilet with all the lovely touches such as a vase of flowers and twinkly solar lights. It was always spotlessly clean. The shower was an awesome experience - constructed from materials found on the farm. We particularly liked the jar of sunflowers and the antlers with plenty of space for hanging towels etc. There's a mirror, shelf and fab shower gel. Just next to the shower is a station for dishwashing - again with everything provided. Shauna greeted us on arrival and took us to our pitch because there's a private crossing over the railway that has to be navigated. There are only a few trains but the site is far enough away that we rarely heard a train. On our final day Shauna visited every tent to let us know we didn't need to rush to leave the following day. This was super useful as it gave us plenty time to dry out the tent. We even left with a couple of courgettes from the farm. We feel it will be hard to find any other site as fabulous as this one. We will definitely be visiting again.

Liked: Beautifully simple. Wonderful views. Lots of space between pitches. Long grass that thrums with wildlife: butterflies, moths, swallows in the daytime and bats when it gets to dusk who swoop down the path cut to our tent. The shower and toilet are clean and work great - warm water in the shower at any hour - with lots of thoughtful details, fairy lights, sunflowers, soft loo roll. The fire pits are well made and great for getting a fire going quickly, ready to sit back and enjoy the glorious Suffolk sunsets and the huge night sky. We were warmly welcomed and made to feel very much at home, will definitely be back.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: A magical weekend in this quiet corner of Suffolk. Butterflies at breakfast and swallows at supper. We were shown by the very friendly owner to a delightful, freshly mowed pitch not far from the shower and loo, with a view of a herd of cows on the horizon. We also had an iron wood burning stove, which was easy to light, with wood bought on site. The site has a slightly unusual layout: it's a single, long, gently undulating field. However this simply means the pitches are a good distance from each other, and apart from the odd friendly wave, we hardly encountered the other campers at all. The loo was spotless and well provisioned with hand sanitizer and loo roll, and the shower was always hot. There are plenty of charming features including fairy lights on the shower and loo, and an old iron which acts as a counterbalance on the shower door. The highlights were the big Suffolk skies: breathtaking crimson sunsets and then at night an amazing display of stars in the very dark sky, including many constellations I'd never seen before. We also had the good fortune to be there the night of a meteor shower. Loads of brilliant places to visit on your doorstep - we spent the day in Southwold on the beach, then had good dinner in The White Hart, an Adnams pub in Halesworth. Thanks Shauna for the warm welcome and for looking after us so well.
