Designed to provide families and friends with a weekend break or active holiday escape, the bell tent village at Grafham Water Centre sits in the Cambridgeshire countryside near Huntingdon. Set on the banks of Grafham Water Reservoir, the location has some lovely views for downtime as well as being a great base for sports-mad groups who can spend heaps of time on outdoor activities and water-based antics. Down-to-earth facilities include an outdoor kitchen and washing-up facilities, with heated toilet and shower provision available in the sports hall, a short walk from the bell tents (the pathway is lit up at night). On request, you can store valuables in lockers at the sports hall, and there is plenty of parking available on site (good news for anyone bringing along a car packed with sports kit…). Activities available on site include ropes courses, a public mountain bike track, lakeside walks and climbing courses on floating inflatables. When you’re in need of relaxation, there’s a pub within five minutes’ walk of the tent village.

Bell tent

Liked: The space between tents was great. Cooking facilities good. Beds comfortable. Hot showers.

Disliked: Only some tents had awning this year. Only one fire pit this year. Had requested to be near the one that was missing this year so our request was granted but no fire pit.

Bell tent

Liked: This was our second year staying here. The tent was clean and spacious and it kept us dry during a few hours of heavy rain at night. The outdoor kitchen was good and made eating and clearing up easier than normal camping. The children enjoyed the den building area and we all enjoyed toasting marshmallows on the fire pit in the evenings. The toilets were clean.

Disliked: The website said that there are lots of activities available but there were actually none available at all in the Saturday or Sunday. There wasn’t wood available for the fire however the children enjoyed foraging for it. The showers don’t work that well but ok for a quick freshen up. We may not stay again because we can’t bring our dog.
