  • Adults-only woodland pitches in Worcestershire
  • A 15-minute drive to Tewkesbury and 25 minutes to the Malvern Hills
  • Outdoor kitchen and barbecue; stone-carving art class available
A destination with no set pitches – just find a spot with valley views or a woodland corner that suits you and claim it – Rockridge in Worcestershire is open to adult guests and their dogs. This spot really does have a back-to-basics vibe to it, so you can bed down in total peace and feel the tug of nature calling you. Having said that, there is a toilet and a shower with hot water, as well as an outdoor cooking area with hot and cold water where you can prepare meals to eat alfresco or wash up your dishes. An outdoor barbecue facility is also on-hand. The farmland is criss-crossed with footpaths that give wonderful views of hilly countryside, so you and your canine chums can have a potter around on site, but don’t forget that all the glorious walking trails in the Malvern Hills National Landscape (25 minutes’ drive) are yours for the taking too. The owner of the site also offers a stone-carving art class which can be booked when you arrive.

What customers say

Rockridge offers a chilled, natural bush camping vibe with freedom to pick your spot. Reviewers loved the friendly owners, tidy facilities (hot showers/loos included!), and campfire potential. A few mentioned highway hum and uneven ground in the trees, but most reckon it’s a ripper for a back-to-basics chill.

Liked Owner

Disliked Unfortunately we were not impressed with this site after seeing the positive reviews. When we arrived there was a large party bastion out a karaoke machine and throwing sticks around. The site was not very well organised and we also found it quite dirty with a lot of litter and fire marks around. The owner seemed to be ok with the nuisance noise and we eventually found a spot flat enough for the tent surrounding by dog mess, fire scorched marks and just general lack of upkeep. I know it’s known as a wild site but it still needs to be maintained and looked after as unfortunately most people don’t know how to leave no trace. So basically it felt like a dirty, no rules, run down piece of land. Also walked to the “local” pub around 45 mins away and was poor too, not much else in the area. Sorry to be harsh but can’t recommend as a campsite for amenities or a wild feel either.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave both your review and your private feedback. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that your stay didn’t meet your expectations.
We completely understand that campers come to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside. On the evening you visited, one group did have a karaoke machine. We spoke to them and asked them to reduce the noise out of consideration for other guests, and we appreciate your comments as they help us reinforce those expectations in the future.
Our campsite is designed to offer a relaxed, back-to-nature experience where guests are free to choose their own pitch rather than being allocated one. While it is a wild camping site, we do take pride in maintaining the land. The campsite is checked daily by the owners, and many of the photographs on our listing have been kindly taken by previous campers, reflecting the experience that most of our guests enjoy.
We’re sorry to hear that you found litter, fire marks and dog mess during your stay. We actively encourage all guests to respect the countryside and leave no trace, although unfortunately not everyone does. We will continue to monitor the site closely and address any issues as quickly as possible.
Regarding the local area, we’re fortunate to be in a peaceful rural location with many walking routes and places of interest nearby, although we appreciate that everyone’s expectations and experiences are different.
Thank you again for your honest feedback. We’re always looking for ways to improve while preserving the natural, informal character that many of our returning guests value.

Liked Gary and Marlene were welcoming, friendly and very helpful. The place has a really nice vibe about it which makes it easy to relax.

The facilities were clean and tidy. The shower was hot and powerful.

Free firewood was a nice bonus and Gary even cut some up for us especially.

On the whole, a great place run by really decent people. Would recommend.

From the manager: Thank you so much, James, for your lovely review. It really means a lot to us that you took the time to share your experience.
It was a pleasure meeting you both and having you stay at Rockridge. We’re so pleased you enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, the clean facilities, and the hot shower after a day of exploring. Gary was more than happy to cut some extra firewood for you—it’s the little things that help make a stay special.
Your kind words about us and the campsite truly mean the world. We work hard to create a friendly, relaxed place where guests can switch off and feel at home, so knowing you felt that way is the best compliment we could receive.
Thank you again for your recommendation. We hope our paths cross again, and you’ll always be very welcome at Rockridge.
Take care, and we look forward to seeing you again.
Warmest wishes,
Gary Marlene

Local attractions

If you’d like a dose of culture on your camping break, Tewkesbury Abbey (15 minutes’ drive) is a smashing place to start. It played a decisive battle in the 15th-century Wars of the Roses and nowadays you can climb the tower for battlefield views, and admire its sparkling stained-glass windows. Afterwards, treat yourself to a crafty pint in one of the town’s half-timbered hostelries. Mix history up with outdoor strolls around Capability Brown-designed follies and flower beds at the Walled Gardens at Croome Court (15 minutes), while the National Trust-owned The Firs (half an hour) is the birthplace of composer Sir Edward Elgar, and has gardens to wander and displays of original manuscripts including ‘Land of Hope and Glory’. Fancy a day out in town? Cheltenham (half an hour) has theatres, stylish shops and a whole host of spas, while the cathedral city of Gloucester has bar-and-shop-lined Victorian quays and docks to explore. And if you prefer to be country based, oh-so-pretty Broadway (both 35 minutes), with its follies, museums and rural walks, is the springboard to explorations of mellow-stone Cotswold villages.
