The open meadow camping field
Pre-made 4 person tent

  • Family-run site on a farm in stunning south Shropshire
  • A 15-minute drive to Bridgnorth; 25 minutes to Ironbridge museums
  • ‘Leave no trace’ site with lots of wildlife and lovely views
Come and unwind at Monkhopton Meadow Camping, where the meadow is just the place for a peaceful stay in the south Shropshire hills. This is a real natural set-up, excellent for those who are looking to switch off somewhere where it's just you, an open field with splendid views and wildlife, and a simple composting toilet and hand-washing facilities. And if you'd like to try something new, sign yourself up for the on-site clay shooting or animal experiences. A wander around the site rewards you with views of the livestock on the surrounding hills, streams on site and lots of birds singing in the trees. It’s all rather relaxed and gorgeous – and to keep it that way you’ll be asked to respect the natural environment and other guests and to ‘leave no trace’, taking care to remove your rubbish and leave the place as you found it. Shopping local is another good way to have a positive impact on the area – and luckily that’s easily done as it’s only about five minutes’ drive to the pretty village of Ditton Priors for a shop, a café and a local butcher. More shops, places to eat and other amenities are on hand in Bridgnorth (15 minutes’ drive) and foodie favourite Ludlow (half an hour). If you need any extra items, there's plenty of stuff available to hire from the site, including but not limited to food hampers, bags of ice, blow-up airbeds, hammocks, camping chairs, gazebos, an extra tent and a travel cot.

What customers say

Peaceful meadow with great Shropshire views. Campers loved the quiet, playground & helpful hosts. "Wild camping" vibe, wildlife spotting & honesty box a hit. Mostly great, but one campervan pitch had tricky water access & was pricey. Some pitches weren't perfectly level.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (wild)

Liked Tucked away off a quiet country lane, a very peaceful and relaxing campsite with acres of space and good views of the countryside.

Disliked Very very basic, with no lighting or running water (if that's what you're after)?!

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (wild)

Liked Beautiful views, clean toilet and very friendly owners.
Make sure to take lots of clean water but other than that, the facilities were great.
Surrounding countryside is perfect for walks and we had lots of fun making a camp fire in the evenings.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (wild)

Liked Friendly folk, and plenty of room for multiple pitches, whilst still maintaining a sense of personal space. Good walks in the surrounding area.

Disliked Although this is not necessary for a good time, a clean water tap would improve the experience.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (wild)

Liked Acres of space, great views across the countryside towards the Wrekin. We were lucky enough to stay when the night sky was clear and were treated to an amazing starry night with no light pollution, which was breathtaking. Toilet facilities were clean and easy to use, good range of bits and bobs in the honesty box, but remember to bring plenty of drinking water. Could hear the owls at night hooting away.

Disliked Kids would have liked to have had some fellow younger campers on site to play with but the adults loved the peace.

Disliked ..didn‘t find the camp site, is not even sign posted. So pitched tent elsewhere on a free field at a farmhouse. 🙄

From the manager: You actually pitched in a field that had an event on which was no where near the campsite. It's not a "free field" it's private property .
We called you to explain this and you kept putting down the phone after shouting things in German. We then drove down to you and offered to give you and your bike and tent a lift to the campsite.

Cattle trailer microlodge

Liked Really good value for money, the location is beautiful. It looks to be near an old ecclesiastical site, which is gorgeous. The campsite is on top of the hills with excellent views of the surrounding countryside. The campsite had moved from last year's location, and I didn't read the info on the website, but the lady I contacted was very helpful. The trailer itself is great, and my daughter loves it. There is a log fire outside the trailer, but the gov has stopped fires currently because it's so dry, so only the gas stove is currently allowed. However, as this improves, it's a great addition which is included within the booking price.

Local attractions

Monkhopton is just outside the Shropshire Hills National Landscape, so that means lots of walks and bike rides are easily accessible from here. If you’d like a bit of woolly company for your walk, book yourselves in for alpaca treks (short family-friendly ones or longer outings) with Severn Valley Alpacas (25 minutes’ drive). Bridgnorth (15 minutes) is a nice place to wander around too, with a castle and the waterside DanIels Mill to visit; you can also hire canoes in town for paddling along the River Severn. Dudmaston Estate, just outside Bridgnorth (20 minutes from Monkhopton) has an excellent art collection as well as pretty terraced gardens; other stately homes to visit nearby include Stokesay Castle (25 minutes) and Attingham Park (half an hour). For different views on history, go all the way back in time at Wroxeter Roman City or explore the many attractions of Ironbridge (both 25 minutes), which has interactive exhibits at Blists Hill Victorian Town and Enginuity and a tile museum (plus the bridge itself, of course).
