Countryside setting

  • Peaceful dog-friendly paddock pitches in the Oxfordshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive from Blenheim Palace and 40 minutes from Oxford
  • Walk 20 minutes to the country pub in Barford St Michael village
Bear down on these simply gorgeous and peaceful paddock pitches in the Oxfordshire countryside. The level grass field at Spring Hill Farm makes pitching up plain sailing. Once you’re all settled in at this pop-up place, seize the day by tracking down the palaces, castles and country houses within driving distance of the site, or just slide into a cosy spot in the country pub in the village of Barford St Michael, 20 minutes’ walk away. It may be peaceful out in the Oxford countryside, but the site still has good access to major routes. If you want to list out a bunch of activities for your itinerary, you might want to begin with the 17th-century Blenheim Palace (20 minutes’ drive), the moated Broughton Castle (15 minutes) or Oxford’s spires (40 minutes) and sights, which include everything from museums and a castle to a distillery and playhouse. Just short of two acres in size, the quiet grass field has access to running water, washing-up facilities and flushing toilets. So, back to basics, you go. Aside from the local village pub, there are many more pubs, restaurants and cafes within five to 10 minutes’ drive of the site when you want a hot brew or something tasty to eat. There’s no doubt that you’ll need the energy, considering that nearby family-friendly attractions include Fairytale Farm (10 minutes), The Lido, Chipping Norton (15 minutes) and the Banbury Open Air Pool (20 minutes). Any Shakespeare fans are bound to get in a significant number of steps in Stratford-upon-Avon (45 minutes) too, checking out the theatres and his birthplace.

What customers say

Spring Hill Farm gets a thumbs up for spotless amenities, including a swish new toilet/shower block. It's a chilled, roomy spot perfect for kicking back, with ace country walks and local pubs nearby. The owners are legends – friendly, helpful, and always about. Fire pits and wood are sorted. A bit of a grumble about the washing-up water not being hot, but it's a ripper place overall, and folks reckon you should totally head back.

Paddock unpowered grass tent site

Liked Super friendly and very helpful! We were checked up on during our stay to ensure everything was Ok, and when I had an issue with my tent it was easy to phone someone for help (I ended up hiring a bell tent as mine was unsalvageable!). Everything was very clean. Only two female and two male toilets for the whole campsite which concerned me but wasn’t actually an issue. Lovely country spot, nice walk to the pub.

Disliked We would recommend that you put up some signs “This Is A Quiet Site - no ball games or music before 8am or after 8pm”…..

Local attractions

Go on, treat yourself to a drink – local brews and guided tours can be tracked down at the Victorian Hook Norton Brewery (15 minutes’ drive) or the Cotswold Distillery Visitor Centre (20 minutes). An excellent challenge might be to tackle a stretch of the Roman Fosse Way, a Roman road that passes through characterful towns like Stow-on-the-Wold (half an hour) and Moreton-in-Marsh (25 minutes). Historic your itinerary may very well be… local National Trust sites include Chastleton House (20 minutes), Upton House (25 minutes) and Stowe Gardens (35 minutes). Medieval Warwick Castle (45 minutes) and Blenheim Palace in Woodstock (20 minutes), are yet more historic attractions. Of course, families are likely to be looking for lively places to keep kids well-entertained. Such spots include Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (40 minutes), Birdland Park & Gardens (35 minutes), Cotswold Farm Park (40 minutes) and The Model Village (35 minutes) in Bourton-on-the-Water. If you have time to fit in some bargain hunting, Bicester Village (25 minutes) is the place to go too.
