  • Quiet tree-lined site with direct access to Cossington nature reserve
  • Adventure woodland on site; pub and café five minutes' walk away
  • Basic facilities; Warblers Bothy for birdwatching and a Badger Trail
Splendid simplicity is what it’s all about at Cossiwild Camping – this Leicestershire site is a place where you can really embrace nature without having to travel too far from urban amenities. Leicester city centre is a mere 20-minute drive from this Soar Valley site, but you’ll feel a world away in this quiet spot flanked by open meadows and mature trees. It’s the kind of place where you’ll be woken by the dawn chorus and may well spot a buzzard gliding overhead or hear a woodpecker going about its business in the woods. The presence of nature on site is partly due to its location next to Cossington Meadows nature reserve, a wetland area with resident and migratory birds. You can walk straight out onto the reserve from the site, making this an excellent spot for walkers, runners, wildlife-hunting kids and keen birdwatchers alike. When the kids aren’t out looking for bugs and birds, they can be playing on site – there’s always space for a ball game, and they’ll have access to play kit including a giant trampoline and a rope swing. Explore the Badger Trail all around the site, too, and look out for birds from the Warblers Bothy. Facilities on site are basic, just stretching to compost toilets and picnic tables, but you’ll be allowed to bring a barbecue or light up a campfire for some alfresco cooking. Handily, the village of Cossington is only five minutes’ walk away for a pub and café, and there are shops in both Sileby and Rothley (both five minutes’ drive).

What customers say

Quiet, rustic site for nature lovers. Kids love the woodland adventure area & rope swings. Toilets are basic but recently upgraded. Great spot near a nature reserve, pubs & garden centre. Owners are great. Occasional road noise. More facilities planned.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked It was really easy to book, the owner of the site was lovely and friendly, had good communication when I needed to ask questions, and was very accommodating when we arrived, helping us set up a fire pit and showing us where everything was.
The campsite itself was absolutely gorgeous and amenities perfect. The access to compost toilets, outdoor shower, drinking water, waste and recycling bins, fire wood, level ground and adventure woodland made our trip easy and accessible (I’m a disabled person and my friend had a broken foot at the time we camped) and I have no issues with any of it. The ability to hire an off ground fire pit we could cook on was a huge bonus. We can’t wait to return. Our only regrets are that we couldn’t stay longer, and didn’t get round to being able to use the outdoor heated pool.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Friendly reception by the owner
Proximity of a pub.

Disliked Disappointed that pool use was advertised but this was not the case. It was the reason I selected this camping.
Outhouses and urinal (haystack) were really ridiculous. Basically wild camping but paying 20 pounds.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Amazing hidden gem in the village of Cossington. Local pub serving fresh pub grub only 5 minute walk in one direction and garden centre tea room for breakfast a short walk in the other.
Amazing host Harry was on hand sharing local knowledge of the area to explore. Perfect flat field to pitch up, wooded area for the kids to explore and play on the swings and trampoline. Added bonus of a heated outdoor pool to hire for a small cost, perfect way to cool down in the hot weather. The eco-toilets were clean and well stocked with loo roll.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Lovely site with everything you could need for a simple camp (standpipe, toilets, fit pits). Adventure woodland was very popular with my daughter and the saw horse and bow saw left out was a really nice touch. Thank you!

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked We really enjoyed our stay. It’s a peaceful, rustic site with basic amenities: recently upgraded compost toilets and an outdoor shower behind a bamboo screen. No electric hook-ups, no dogs, and no music after 9:30pm.
Plenty for the kids — rope swing, slide, trampoline in lovely woodland gardens to escape screen time. Bonus: outdoor pool available for hire.
Cossington Nature Reserve is next door and accessible from the campsite. The Royal Oak pub and garden centre cafe are short walks away. Apart from slight road noise you easily forget you are very close to civilization.
Owner Harry was very welcoming and made an effort to chat with everyone. Highly recommend — we’ll definitely be back!

Ken F. 1 review

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Great site for kids, old school diy entertainment, amenites may take them out of their comfort zone but really make them appreciate home. Everything that modern camping has lost.
Picturesque secret garden site, adventures for kids, river swing, fire pits, swimming pool, surounded by nature reserves, nice walks & longer distance hikes through the gates, canals & swimming. Nice village, range of good pubs, food & groceries.
Bus stop ~100m, train ~1 mile. Easy & frequent links to Leichester, space centre, Luton airport.
Pick your own spot to pitch, compost tollet but clean & no smell, warm shower on a sunny day. Charge point for your devices.
Harry is a fantastic host, his site is very new so is still working things out.

From the manager: A privilege to host you Ken and son, our first Kiwi and Estonian visitors, you made the most of everything here and gave us great ideas to build on the themes of natural, local, playful and peaceful.
