What customers say
Great spot near Leominster with a top-notch pub offering hearty grub. Staff are a real ripper! Good value & clean facilities generally, but a few reckon the loos could be tidier, as could the site itself. Still a solid base for seeing the sights.

From the manager: Hi, sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us and sorry you feel £12.50 per night per person with electric and free shower isn't a good deal. We pride ourselves on being friendly and helpful and we have a full time cleaner and facilities are cleaned every day. The Wi-fi is also free to use and is out of our hands to control the quality of that, we have super fast broadband and Wi-fi boosters and can't really do anymore I'm afraid. The areas you describe as needing 'tidying up' are areas we have left inbtentionally rewilded to accommodate wildlife impacted by the fact there is a campsite. The bin area is currently being upgraded, but is truthfully useable although not ornamental because it's a bin area.
Nonetheless, we are sorry we were nto a good fit for your expectations.
Usefully located site but better off having your own facilities.

Liked Easy access to Leominster and main road. Pitches level and well spaced.
Disliked Only toilets (apart from a single portaloo) are in pub and locked when pub is closed.
Only one shower in pub just outside locked pub door. OK but dated.
The site has a number of permanent residents as far as I could see. Not a problem for us but others could not be happy.

From the manager: Just to correct you on a few points, the shower was refitted in 2020, I don't know how many people refit their bathrooms every 5 years but seems an excessive request to me that it's done more frequently than that, it's floored with tiles and has nice mermaid board to the walls, it's a good powered mains shower and it's 24 /7 access, is cleaned every day and it's FREE. (Please see pics folks and judge for yourselves).
Not sure what type of shower would you like for the £12.50 per day you each paid.
Just to clarify also that there are NO permanent residents on the site, it's not something we permit, and since you only stayed for 3 nights not even sure how you a. came to that conclusion or b. had any relevant information that could have led you to your incorrect conclusion.
Hoping your next foray into camping leads you to somewhere wonderful with gold plated taps in the bathroom and no other visitors, so you might not mistake them for permanent residents.
Also the amount of Portaloos we have on site varies depending on the number of people we have staying- and can be considerably more than one during busy periods. Obviously we didn't realise you wanted several each.
I think you're expectations are probably better suited to larger commercial sites, who in turn charge larger commercial prices.

Liked Had a choice of pitches, mowed field.
The man who dealt with booking was very pleasant
Disliked We arrived Sunday afternoon expecting to be able to eat, however, Sunday lunches finished at 4 and food wasn’t served later. Apparently food has good reviews. The pub was open for drinks.
The toilets and shower were quite clean but they were inside the pub so when the pub closed, they were out of use, there was then a port-a-loo in the field to use, the loo was clean in the evening but wasn’t by morning, it was smelly! Being Sunday not many take aways open, and some bad reviews for some take aways.
Not in a particularly scenic area. Sadly won’t be revisiting !

From the manager: Hi, We are glad that you found the staff friendly, we always try to be as helpful as possible.
With regard to the food, it's advertised everywhere that on Sundays we finish food service after Sunday lunch, so we are sorry that you were not aware of that, but as you note there are not many places open for food on Sunday evenings, and nowhere that you can have a sit down meal in Leominster at all.
The shower is open 24 hours and is free to use, as you will see if you read other people's reviews so not sure why you think it closes when the pub does, that is only the internal pub toilets and as you correctly note there is a portaloo available for overnight use, which you said was clean when you arrived. It is cleaned every morning so I am assuming that you might have used it early morning before that was done the next day. It's not possible to clean it after each person uses it I'm afraid.
Sorry to hear that you didn't like the area, but we find Leominster lovely and try to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable stay. Better luck on your next camping trip wherever you decide to go.

Liked We specifically wanted to pitch up on a site with a pub and Barons Cross hit the mark. Everyone was friendly, amenities were clean, we had a couple of hours on their pool table, as well as a good range of draught beers they also served non alcoholic drinks (a big 10* for that). We didn’t try the food but it did smell amazing. We will visit again.

Disliked We stayed here a few years back and it was lovely, clean and tidy outside beer garden and very cosy and inviting inside. What a difference a few years makes.
So untidy outside, rubbish everywhere around tables, cigarette ends all over the place. Inside the chairs were stained and the layout very uninviting. When I asked for a pint of the ale on show I was told there was no ales, just one beer and lager or cider. I asked for a menu and was given 2 dirty menus that had to be prized apart! We did not eat there. I know people say the food is very good but I couldn't eat in that environment. When we stayed before the touring pitches were individually fenced and very private. Fences all down now and everything just looks unkempt. As it was a bank holiday there was lots of units in the field so the site was very busy. It's such a shame that the brewery has let it go like this. We shan't be returning.

From the manager: I'm assuming you are people we had to remove from the site because you had an attitude like hell who were exceptionally rude to staff and generally disruptive to other campers. (We have other campers who will back this up if anyone is having a slow day and is sufficienlty interested...).
These folks were not, as you might imagine, fun at parties!
Quick run down of the alleged gripes (just for the hell of it really).
1. When we first arrived we tore up a carpet which had been in the lounge / restaurant bar since 1966. It was literally stuck to the floor with stale beer and the delightful aroma of 50 years worth of cigarettes, and we replaced it with solid wood, easy to clean flooring which was down when you visited. We think it's nice, lots of customers comment on how nice it is. If that 50 year old carpet was your idea of 'cosy and inviting' then, whatever.... this is not the place for you.
2. The chairs inside have leather seats and aren't stained.
3. No-one is under any obligation whatsoever to stock drinks you particularly personally like, although we have a huge range of drinks for a smallish provincial pub and you can get nice cocktals here too. There were no real ales 'on show', all of the badges were turned around, as we had sold out since we were so busy, thus they were not at that point on sale. We apologised, you huffed and puffed. You had a choice of 8 different draught drinks and numerous bottled beveages but none of them suited you on your fault finsing mission.
4. Our menus are paper, I gravely doubt they needed to be 'prized apart'-sic.
5.We have an award winning Chef, and an excellent food hygeine rating, hence all the 10 star reviews which usually mention our food, so t's your loss that you chose not to eat with us. Hope you enjoyed your Morrison's Meal Deal or wherever you chose to eat instead.
6. I saw photos of the touring pitches all fenced in like little yards- it wasn''t like that when we moved in and was I gather a considerable time ago. We have no intention of reinstating those, we run a fun and friendly campsite where people enjoy chatting to and interacting with their neighbours, so the idea of being walled off really isn't our vibe, besides which they would have been a fire hazard. If that's your jam, you could buy a very large box and sit in your garden thus saving yourself the price of a holiday!
7. For the probably hundredth time. We have rewilded 1-2 metres all around the fence lines as habitat for wildlife. We don't use pestisides, we allow the pond to exist without interference intentionally. I'm sure you'd wade in with 10 tons of Round Up, kill everything in sight and imagine you are improving the place, but again that's not our vibe. We co-exist and are proud to do so, and kids love finding newts and sloe worms and wooly bears and what not about the place. It's nice we think. We also love the Moles that dig the lawn up and leave them be, cos they are sweet little things that do not harm except make the place look 'unkempt'.
8. 'As it was Bank holiday there was ( sic) lots of units in the field so the site was very busy'- well yes because people like it here. It's fun, frendly and relaxed, and you either get that or, in your case, you don't. It's not a crime to have a thriving campsite other people enjoy you know.
9.' It's such a shame that the brewery has let it go like this.'- interesting- when we got here the entire site was utterly delapidated and filled with rubbish. In the year we have been here we've sunk thousands into improviing everything, including painting the whole pub, inside and out, erecting a Marquee, upgrading the kids play area, getting a brand new pool table and dart boards, resurfacing pitches and all three of us have never worked less than 18 hour days, 7 days per week. Am i sorry that's not good enough for you? No, not really. I'm pleased with the nice things 99% of people have to say about us and the pub and campsite. the 1% I won't waste my energy on concerning myself with.
At this point I am supposed to put some sort of meaningless platitude about how sorry I am that you weren't happy, but to be honest I'm not going to do that. We do our best to make both the pub and campsite a friendly, warm and welcomng place for everyone. Thus, your opinion of me and my campsite is nothing whatsoever to do with me since we have all tried very hard to do that and if it's still not good enough for you then there's nothing I can do about it. This is a rude, unpleasant and unfair review, and you were rude, unpleasant and unfair in real life as well. Soemtimes you just don't gel with people, we are clearly not the site for you and you are certainly not the clients for us.
Oh yeah and...
10. 'We shan't be returning'- darned right you won't!
