  • Spacious family-owned site in the Cotswolds
  • Five minutes' drive from Cirencester and 25 from Cheltenham
  • A 15-minute drive from Bibury and the start of the Thames Path
A getaway full of fab scenery, peaceful wanders and historical streetscapes… and bringing the dog along for the journey? It’s a cinch at Mayfield Park, a family-friendly and family-owned Gloucestershire site five minutes’ drive from the market town of Cirencester and the pretty village of Bibury. This is a top spot to use as a base for explores of the spectacular Cotswolds. Overlooking the Churn valley, the site has easy access to plenty of local walks and scenic villages – just ask in reception for recommendations – and the long-distance Thames Path (so long it’ll take ramblers all the way to London) starts about 15 minutes’ drive away for lengthy treks. Exploring without needing to use feet or pedals is simple round here too: the bus route for Cirencester and Cheltenham passes the site and there’s a stop about 100 feet from the entrance; otherwise pile everyone into the car for the five-minute ride to Cirencester or the 25-minute canter to Cheltenham. Be sure to head back to the site in time to catch the sun setting over the fields, then settle in for an evening of barbecues as canine pals stretch out in the grass. Want a break from cooking? Sniff out one of the local pubs serving local eats to get a taste of Gloucestershire.

What customers say

Great site with clean, modern facilities (heated loos with music!) & friendly staff. Handy for Cirencester & Cotswolds, with bus access. Mostly peaceful, though some road noise noted. Sloping pitches & distance to facilities are minor points. Overall, a cracker of a stay!

Unpowered grass site (sloping)

Liked The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and the whole process of checking in to showing us to our pitch, as well as showing and explaining to us where all the amenities are was fantastic. It was fast, however nothing was missed and everything cleared explicated.

Disliked This is not a dislike, however as we are not so accustomed to camping, the field next to us contained two horses ( which in itself is a great extra for young children). This meant being woken up in the night by one eating from the adjacent tree and giving our little ones a bit of a fright. They pictured something much worse than a beautiful white horse chomping away next to us.

Powered grass site (sloping)

Liked Loved that they played music/radio into the shower/toilet facilities. Never been to a campsite that does this and it was a nice touch.

Everything was clean and tidy. Not too busy, nice and quiet and relaxing. Lovely friendly staff.

Great location.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Nothing

Disliked Our pitch we discovered was on an ants nest which entered into the caravan in everything from bedding to clothes to food not nice when wake up itching with them on you .
We complained to office just said it's the weather but did not offer to help with the problem. We suggested that they treat the area so it didn't ruin anybody else's stay.we are not exaggerating the severety of the problem we got photos as well .
We bought traps and sprayed several times unable to continue holiday went home still trying to get rid of ants a week later
WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS SITE

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked The lady on the desk was friendly. The site was clean. We chose the level pitch and we were glad we did.

Disliked Showers were not very warm and reduced to a trickle at times when there was only me and one other using them. The site was noisy from traffic off the road. WiFi was dreadful.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Pitch was well kept, that's about it.

Disliked On arrival and check-in a smile would be nice, after walking down to the amenities and shop that doesn't exist,we went to the hot spot for some ideas of where to go,well that was a joke,I'm sure they were watching us and kept turning the wifi off and on.
As we left for the pitch I asked if it was OK to put a empty can of coke in the bin next to the shop and was told this is the households bin and our rubbish was to be put in the bins by the amenities!!
I was quite shocked at this as I was only trying to dispose of a can,but just never saw a smile from anyone nothing for any teenagers no phone signal or mobile data, pretty poor would definitely not go back, actually booked 2 nights but came home after the air show couldn't bare being there anymore.

Liked Toilets, Showers, Wash are important and these are all large enough that you never had to wait to get cleaned up etc.

The place itself is very easy to find and well sign posted off the main road with electric barrier for guests.

Disliked Ants, Ants, Ants ... absolutley everywhere so they end up in your tent, in your sleeping bag, in your clothes. The previous guests obv had the same problem as they poured salt in stripes all over the area to try and stop them entering your tent ... which did not work as we wonk up with them everywhere.

The pitch itself was on the ski slope part of the field which was also a nightmare for a good nights sleep.

For us it wasent a good night sleep and thankfully we only booked one night so in all with the ants and the slopey field I wish I just stayed in a travel lodge or wild camped.

Local attractions

With Cheltenham racecourse a mere 30 minutes’ drive away, this site is a prime pick for horsey types – but if the gee-gees don’t have the family galloping for joy, there are other four-legged, fleet and feathered options at the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, also half an hour from base. If the Cotswold Gardens grow enthusiasm for stately houses and grand designs, there’s plenty else hereabouts to entice: Chavenage House, Berkeley Castle, Bowood House, Sudeley Castle, Newark Park and Dyrham Park are all within an hour for old piles, and Westonbirt Arboretum and the gardens at Highgrove (Charlie and Camilla’s royal digs) are definitely worth a turn half an hour away. For more urban explores, start 15 minutes from the site in the scenic village of Bibury to have a poke around the Chedworth Roman Villa, travel on to Bourton-on-the-Water (20 minutes) for Birdland, a maze, a motoring museum and a model village, then take things up a notch in Cirencester, where there are Roman remains, museums, markets, parks and a manor house all waiting for visitors. Keep things soothingly low-key with a spin on the Swindon and Cricklade steam railway, 25 minutes away, or get a bit more active with watersports, paintball, fishing and horse riding at Cotswold Water Park or an adrenaline-fuelled day at the Gloucestershire Rally School, both within 20 minutes.
