  • Valley site a mile from the Peak District town of Buxton
  • Surrounded by woodland and with a gorge and viaduct at one end
  • Play area on site; half an hour's walk from the town centre
Travelling types, move Buxton to the top of your list… This Derbyshire spa town and gateway to the Peak District is only a mile away from Lime Tree Holiday Park – it'll take you five minutes to drive or half an hour to walk into the town centre from this handy base. The site is in its own valley in a Special Landscape Area, surrounded by farmland and with a wooded limestone gorge and old railway viaduct at one edge. (Maps, brochures and sheets of information on local attractions are at the Lime Tree reception, or ask one of the helpful staff for advice on things to see and do.) Facilities on site include an adventure playground where kids can let off steam and an ice block freezing facility so that you can look forward to a chilled drink after a long day out adventuring. The site also has a microwave where you're welcome to heat babies’ or toddlers' food and a gas cylinder exchange service. Among the amenities are a modern toilet block (in the centre of the field, no less), showers and a washing-up area.

What customers say

Great spot! Top-notch, spotless facilities, especially showers. Friendly staff & easy walk to Buxton with views. Just a heads-up, some fields are a bit sloped.

Unpowered grass tent site (six person)

Liked Visited to stay a few days in the peak district with my sister. Gorgeous location, stunning views, so much room in the field and told we could either pitch on the terraces or up in the open field ("pitch wherever you like in that field" we were told upon entry). We opted for the field as it offered more privacy and better views and were not disappointed!
The toilet and shower block were brilliant, the disabled shower/toilet was great, it was massive with a temperature controlled shower, toilet, sink, hand dryer, and baby change mat. Ample space on the floor to change an adult but this is a let down as there would definitely be space for an adult changing table in there if they moved the baby changing table.
Only a 7 minute drive from the St Ann's Well (fed by the Buxton spring), the best water you'll ever taste, better even than the bottled Buxton (must be the bottling process). We took 5ltr containers and filled up for our whole stay on night one, and we came back home with a little extra.
Only a 40 minute drive from Alton Towers.
Only a FIVE MINUTE drive from High Peak Book Store & Café. We recommend the Buxton Fog (it's a tea latte).
Only 2 minutes from a big morrisons which has a café- great breakfasts! Also fresh fish counter and fresh butcher counter. The campsite allows BBQs as long as you elevate it off the grass with bricks (provided) or you have a freestanding BBQ with you.
It feels remote at your pitch (helped by the mountain views) despite being only half a mile from the centre of Buxton!
Will definitely be coming again and staying a bit longer next time so we can do more things.

Disliked There's a lump in the road going up the hill to the field which your car will catch on 80% of the time.
Toilet and washing up block are downhill from the field meaning carrying your washing back up with you however far up the hill you pitched.
It gets windy on the field so if you feel the cold easily, go for a terrace.
No sanitary or yellow waste disposal bin in the disabled toilet.
No needle disposal on site (bring your yellow sharps bin with you).

Liked Large site with very clean shower block. Pizza van, games room and playground all on site. Walking distance to Buxton and shops

Disliked Flatter pitches in shade, main field very sloped. Apparent random approach to whether ball games are acceptable or not

Liked Facilities were excellent, all very clean. Close to Buxton.

Disliked The tent field was on quite a considerable slope which made sleeping, cooking and eating challenging. Walk to Buxton wasn't great and the main road by the camp site had fast moving traffic and very small pavements. I wouldn't recommend walking there with young children.

Local attractions

Like Bath in the south, Buxton was founded as a spa town by the Romans and became popular in Georgian times for the supposed health-giving properties of its spa water. Fill up your water bottle at St Anne's Well in front of the Crescent, then go on a Buxton tour to see its Georgian architecture and smart landscape, including the ornamental gardens at the Pavilion, and the Buxton Opera House, the highest in the country. The Peak District as a whole is full of market towns stuffed with local produce and interesting attractions: go to Bakewell for the essential eponymous tart; Leek for Rudyard Lake and the steam train; Ashbourne for a couple of hundred listed buildings, and fellow spa town Matlock Bath. If you don’t mind travelling a bit further, Sheffield and Manchester can both be reached in an hour to an hour and a quarter. Also nearby is Castleton with Norman Peveril Castle and four show caves; if going underground is your thing, also check out the caves at Poole’s Cavern just outside Buxton. And there’s caving (and climbing) aplenty all around the Peak District National Park, along with stacks of outdoor pursuits like hot air ballooning, gliding, watersports and biking the Tissington and Manifold trails.
