  • Family-run campsite on a dairy farm in the Peak District National Park
  • Access to Lathkill Dale directly from the site
  • Woodfired pizzas and ice cream sold on site
When you’re keen to get out exploring the Derbyshire Dales, you can’t get much closer to them than Haddon Grove Farm Campsite. This welcoming, family-run caravan and camping site has direct access to spectacular Lathkill Dale from the pitches. Located on a dog-friendly working dairy farm – you are welcome to meet the cows, horses and chickens – with views to the hills and dales of the Peak District National Park, the site was established in the early 1950s and has gone from strength to strength ever since. There are separate fields for family use – with play areas and rope swings – and others for group bookings, ensuring nobody gets disturbed on site. Facilities run to a shower block and wash room, and as barbecues are allowed by the pitches in the camping fields (source any foodie bits in the pretty town of Bakewell, 10 minutes’ drive), firepits can be hired on site. Logs are sold from the small on-site shop, which – more importantly for the kids – also stocks tasty ice cream from a local farm. The site also sells woodfired pizzas, which should be handy if you fancy eating something more substantial.

What customers say

Haddon Grove Farm's lauded for its ripper views, heaps of space & easy access to country walks. Owners are legends, facilities are spick and span. Blokes love picking their own spot & the family vibe. Can get busy on weekends, some folks hear a bit of noise from other campers.

Powered gravel and concrete caravan site

Liked Great location and clean, modern toilet and shower block. Good base for visiting the Peaks and easy to find. This was our second stay here.

Disliked If being very picky, the toilet cassette disposal was a little “open” compared to other sites we’ve visited, and a little full.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked the facilities that were clean all the time, never smelt and the late check in because most sites have you check in before 8 whereas this site you can check in until 9:30 which is great. Such a great location as well, and also have food choices such as wood fired pizzas, highly recommend this.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked We've been to Haddon Grove campsite numerous times over the years and have always had a great time. The owners are friendly and helpful. The site improves year on year (new toilet/washing facilities again this year and you can now order pizza delivery at the weekends) too. Yes, it's a relatively simple and basic site but that's what we've always loved, especially being able to use fire pits in the evenings. And now that my children are teens, I really appreciate having the campsite nearby as it's about the only campsite locally that allows under 18s to camp without adults - just to reassure everyone, there's a separate field for groups, away from the family field so there's no problems with noise etc. My teens have loved this opportunity to experience a little 'freedom' from parents while always being respectful to other campers. Thanks Haddon Grove!

Local attractions

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. Combine your stroll around the verdant grounds at Chatsworth House with a guided tour of the mansion’s ornate rooms packed with priceless antiques, or take in the Elizabethan Walled Gardens at Haddon Hall (both 20 minutes’ drive) after you’ve admired the tapestry collection and medieval chapel. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
