Even non-campers probably know that glamping – or glamorous camping – has been on the up and up in recent years. Bookings for camping types such as tipis, yurts, wigwams, camping pods, gypsy caravans, shepherd’s huts and other styles of quirky camping have shot up, with glamping now listed as one of the top travelling trends for 2012.
The list was compiled by the Guardian and said that many glamping sites had been sold out during the summer of 2012, despite the ‘washout’ weather.
Other travel trends for 2012 included a rise in activity holidays, probably influenced by the Olympics. Cycling holidays in particular saw a surge after Bradley Wiggins won the Tour de France – see our tips on cycling and camping here, with details of parks with cycle hire on-site and nearby.
