For a small town and former fishing village, camping in Conil de la Frontera could see you stretching out on sand every day of your Spanish hol: the dozen or so beaches in this area of Andalucia span over 16 kilometres of coast and include lively spaces like the small beach at Conil itself, the family-friendly frolics of popular Playa La Fontanilla, and the cloistered coves for skinny dipping at Cala de Aceite.
As it can be tiring lying on the beach or dipping in the sea all day, we’d recommend nothing further from your Conil de la Frontera campsite in the evening than working your way around Conil’s many fine seafood and tapas restaurants: Cadiz cuisine is one of the best in the world to try the freshest of fresh tuna, fish aficionados, as it’s been caught here for centuries using the ancient almadraba method (turn up at Conil in May – June for the Tuna Route or buy Conil tuna where it’s processed nearby in Barbate). The nightlife is pretty tiptop in the town too and suits all sorts, from casual cocktail sippers to those who want to dance until dawn. And then another hard day on the beach beckons…
