Game spotting followed by a dip in the pool, a massage, cocktails and a tasty meal – what an utterly fab way to spend a day or few. If this sounds like the sort of schedule you could consider, make for Mbizi Game Lodge and Spa, a smart and spacious rural resort in the bush, around 20 minutes’ drive from the Limpopo town of Bela-Bela.
This is a great spot for leisurely days of wildlife viewing and exploring the countryside surrounds without being too far removed from urban amenities and other attractions. Hiking, bike and four-wheel drive trails are all easily accessed in the area, and there are fishing spots and a farmyard on site as well. There’s plenty more to throw into the mix locally too: a spa resort, golf course and animal encounters are all within a short drive.
It’s a fine idea to factor in a good chunk of time to spend at the resort as well, as there’s a long list of facilities on site, including an indoor heated swimming pool, outdoor pool, trampolines, miniature golf, a playground and facilities for table tennis, badminton and volleyball. Need a bit more help to relax? Saunter to the spa for massages, facials and other pampering treatments.
After all that, it'll be time for a feed: the restaurant serves up light meals at peak times, and there’s a convenience store for other bits and bobs. If it’s just a drink you need, swim up to the poolside cocktail bar (weekends and high season only), order chilled beers from main bar or pick up something from the liquor store to take back to your pitch.

Lokale seværdigheder
There’s some top game viewing to be had around the lodge, but as wild creatures can’t be summoned at will, sightings can never be guaranteed. If you're impatient or unlucky, all is not lost – you can still see toothy residents at Thaba Kwena crocodile farm (half an hour’s drive) and meet monkeys and big cats at Mystic Monkeys and Feathers Wildlife Park, an hour away.
To get even closer to big beasts, aim for Adventures with Elephants (25 minutes away), an ethical elephant park where you can meet, feed and ride the gentle giants, and watch the mayhem that often ensues as they take their daily bath.
Leaving the animals to it for a while, there’s plenty of other activities nearby to fill your days with. Golfers may like to wield a club on the world-class course at Koro Creek Bushveld Golf Estate (40 minutes' drive), and there's a whole heap of family-friendly frolics to be had at Warmbaths resort (15 minutes), including a waterpark, archery, cable waterskiing and quad biking.
