Set in green, green countryside on the borders of the Charente and Charente-Maritime, Camping Chez Philipaud is a peaceful campsite surrounded by grape vines, walnut groves and sunflower fields. It’s near a rural hamlet of the same name, and both family-run and family-friendly, so everything is all set up for parents and kids alike to have a relaxing holiday. Each spacious grass pitch has access to electricity, and all benefit from partial or full shade under mature trees. You may well want to spend leisurely days sunbathing and dipping into the pool. For food, you might want to visit the local towns of Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire or Baignes-Saint-Radegonde (both 10-15 minutes’ drive) to restock at major hypermarkets or have lazy lunches in cosy bistros. There are also refreshments sold on site. Thanks to the proximity of the N10 autoroute (15 minutes), Camping Chez Philipaud is very easy to get to. You’re welcome to overnight on your way further south to Bordeaux and Spain, or hang around for a few days to discover the delights of the Charente.

Syntes om Lovely campsite. Host were hospitable and very friendly. Arthur is adorable (owners dog). Nice walk to the lake and through the woods. The surrounding countryside is beautiful 😍. Supermarket only 10 minute drive away. Would definitely go there again. Dave, Michelle and Doug the pug.

Syntes om Friendly welcome and open plan field of pitches - we had a nice corner pitch with some shade. Great pool with several loungers. Clean facilities with music in the shower / wash up block.

Syntes ikke om Quite isolated - but knew that when booking.
Unruly and unsupervised Dutch kids running round the pool and throwing toys about- not the campsite’s fault but still a dislike.

Syntes om We had a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We liked the clean swimming. The open-plan style campsite. We had an electrical hookup.
The site was clean, including showers and toilets. The site was quiet with lots of shade, if needed, from the walnut trees. Although off the beaten track, not far from Cognac and other local attractions.

Syntes om Small site with good no frills facilities. Swimming pool onsite a nice addition. Lovely helpful English hosts. Easy road cycling to an excellent Voie Vert cycleway. Interesting birds and amazing bats at dusk.

Syntes ikke om No option to order morning bread etc. Nearest bakery is quite a drive away (but still worth the journey).

Syntes om This may seem like a review from some French camping brochure but if you are looking for peace and tranquility amongst vinyards and sunflower fields then this place is definitely for you. The toilet block is the best weve seen throughout our trip to France with music, hot water for showers and washing, handsoap and yes toilet rolls and seats! The swimming pool is perfect and much needed on a hot day. Pitches are set in a large area with shrubs and trees for shade or sun.A great warm welcome if youre near Lamerac.

Lokale seværdigheder

If you’d rather abandon the car for a couple of days, you’ve easy access to the surrounding countryside from the campsite, for family walks in the vineyards and woods nearby. To up the activity levels, head for the Piscine Les Antilles (20 minutes’ drive) to spend an afternoon zooming down waterslides, or strike out by bike along the gentle Galope Chopine trail to Chantillac (15 minutes), following an old railway. Old-world Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire (15 minutes) is dominated by its medieval chateau. The tourist office organises free walking tours of the town, and you can also pick up regional wines. Jonzac (20 minutes) is another lovely spot with a chateau, a pocket-sized beach by the Seugne river and spa facilities. For day trips out further afield, Cognac (35 minutes) offers the chance to sample local brandy, while Saintes (50 minutes) is known for Roman-era ruins and several stately churches. It’s about equidistant (an hour and 15 minutes) to both Bordeaux – for its elegant architecture and landmark La Cité du Vin – and Royan, with a sandy beach and calm waves for swimming.
